Prison Break Premiere

E_PrisonBreak_136.jpgHelllooo my little Prison Break lov-ahs,

PB and I got off to a very steamy start during its first season on the air. I had a Wentworth Miller screen saver and everything. I loved the ridiculously long intros to each show and the suspense had me biting off all my nails every Monday night.

As the title clearly says, the show is about breaking out of prison (duh). For those of you who haven't been die-hard fans from the beginning, I'll summarize:

Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) is sentenced to death for the murder of Terrence Steadman, the brother of U.S. Vice President Carolyn Reynolds (who eventually becomes President) -- a crime he didn't commit but cannot prove. After Lincoln loses all of his appeals, his brother, Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) steps in (literally). Scofield goes out and gets himself put in the same prison, Fox River Penitentiary, for armed robbery. He uses his engineering skills to devise a plan to break them both out. Throughout season 1, we learn that the murder Lincoln is accused of is actually a huge conspiracy theory, and everyone who comes close to the truth ends up mysteriously disappearing.

Even though I'm hooked, there's one thing I've never been able to wrap my head around: I never thought the show could go beyond one season. I mean, isn't the whole point based on whether they successfully escape?

As season two begins, however, Scofield and Burrows have both escaped (along with six other inmates), but the story is far from over. Apparently, eight escaped convicts doesn't go unnoticed -- who knew? This season focuses on the manhunt to find the men and also appears to delve deeper into the conspiracy plot. .byphoto_lindsey.gif

E_PrisonBreak3_136.jpgWith the FBI, headed by FBI Special Agent Alexander Mahone (William Fitchner), hot on their heels, the convicts run through the woods and come across a little girl, whom they hold hostage until her father hands over the keys to his car.

It is here they make a big mistake. They let the father see which direction they're driving. When Mahone talks with the man, he realizes they're headed to Oswego. Mahone is starting to realize that Scofield has the entire escape route tattooed on his body -- every last detail of it.

He is one step behind the cons when he reaches the cemetery where Scofield and the gang have changed into regular clothes. It is in the graveyard that Scofield and his brother say good-bye to the rest of the men. They're off to retrieve the $5 million that fellow inmate Charles Westmoreland (who died during the escape) had hidden in Utah. The other cons, however, know about the money and aren't about to let the brothers get to it first.

T-Bag (Robert Knepper), went off on his own after another escapee, John Abruzzi (Peter Stormare) cut off his hand last season. We find T-Bag, one of the most horrendous prisoners at Fox River Penitentiary, outside the office of veterinarian Marvin Gudat. He asks threatens the doc to fix his arm and refuses any anesthetic. Hmm, this isn't looking so good for the doc...

Meanwhile, Veronica Donovan (Robin Tunney), who is Lincoln's ex-girlfriend and his lawyer, has discovered the President's brother, Terrence, is still alive. She arrives at his house and begins questioning him, only to find that the house is actually a prison that locks from the outside. She has no way out, and neither does he. She calls the police, but when they arrive, we find out the call was actually rerouted to those in on the conspiracy and they shoot her -- while she is on the phone with Lincoln.

Did anyone else totally not see that one coming? In such a convoluted plot, I thought that was a great move on the writers' parts.

Another interesting side story is that of Dr. Sara Tancredi (Sarah Wayne Callies). She is the prison doctor (and Governor's daughter) who fell in love with Scofield in the first season. And in my opinion, he loved her, too. In this episode, she wakes up in a hospital, after overdosing on drugs, to find that she is being charged as an accessory to the escape. She did, after all, leave the infirmary door open for the men. At the end of the episode, she finds a white dove in her purse from Michael with a note that says everything will work out.

Those two brothers (one of which is an ACTUAL brotha' and FINE). If prisons were co-ed and I knew those two were in the big house, there is nothing you could do to keep me from committing homocide.
