Grey's Anatomy Show Recap: October 19

E_PatrickDempseyIsaiah_136.jpgEarlier this week, I talked about how a show gets itself into trouble when its real-life happenings become more interesting than its reel-life happenings. Sadly, I felt like this was the case for last night's Grey's. It was a snooze in comparison to all the real-life headlines about racial slurs and one of the stars announcing that he's gay.

Nonetheless, let's recap…

Patient information: A new mom who has breast cancer… A divorced couple who had a quickie and get stuck together -- literally.

Grey_McDreamy_136.jpgSo Long, Shepherds: In a law office, Addison and Derek hammer out who receives which assets from their marriage. The lawyer mentions that Addison has a trust fund, so look for that to become a bigger story later. Derek tells Add that he wants their joint property in Seattle and she can take their NYC brownstone and their place in the Hamptons. Derek tells her that it's only fair because she simply had a one-night stand with Mark. He had a relationship with Meredith. Addison hides the fact that what she had with Mark was more than one-night, takes the properties and signs on the dotted line. They're officially divorced.

Week5_Grey_MM.jpg
Hospital Business: The doctors and interns have to go to an M&M, which is a forum they have monthly to discuss mistakes in patient care. They think it's going to be fun -- Christina gets snacks! -- but when they get there they realize they're talking about Denny's death. Many of the doctors (that we've never seen before) blast Dr. Bailey for letting an intern cut his… whatever it was Izzie cut that killed him. The docs accuse Bailey of having out of control interns and being too hormonal as a new mom to do her job. Cute Alex defends her (love him!), but Bailey tells him to sit. She's taking the heat. The interns realized that Izzie, who came to clean out her locker, was watching.

Meredith Is a Drag: A really annoying part of the show is Meredith's bizarre refusal to tell Derek that she broke up with Finn. When he asks her how Finn is doing, she goes so far as to say: "Finn is fine." This girl has been whining about Derek for three seasons and now that they're both single and unattached she pretends she's dating someone else? I don't get her -- at all. So Derek and Meredith keep bumping into one another in the hospital and it was so lame.

Week5_Grey_callieGeorge.jpgCallie + George = Over: Callie wakes up in bed with McSteamy (aka Mark). George is blowing up her phone, but she doesn't answer his calls. At the hospital, she sorta turns to Meredith for advice when she 'fesses up to sleeping with "someone" and asks Mer if she should tell George. Of course Meredith turns the whole thing back on herself by ignoring Callie's question and talking about McDreamy. What's wrong with her? That night, George arrives at Callie's door with movies they can watch together. A day late and a dollar short, she tells him and shuts the door. Poor George!

Bad Practices: Burke's still having the tremors. Just when he's going to tell the chief, the chief cuts him off and doesn't give him a chance. So Burke very wisely (ha!) decides to perform surgery anyway -- with Christina by his side in case anything shady goes down. During surgery, his hand starts shaking and Christina takes over. The interns who are observing think Christina performing surgery is perk because she's Burke's girlfriend… they don't realize that he can't do it himself. So glad I'm not a patient at that place!

Week5_Grey_IzzieChief.jpgMs. Moneybags: Izzie "I'm Fine" Stevens can't bring herself to cash the check from Denny, so she roams around the hospital after she was supposedly going there to just clean out her locker. She wanders into Burke's office, where they discuss Denny's death. Burke tells her that when he was shot -- and hurt his surgical hand -- he was going to check on Denny because Izzie asked him to. She he blasts her saying, "You have two good hands and aren't using them. Feel guilty about that." Izzie talks to the chief about coming back. She later hangs the $8.7 million check that she's been carrying around all day on the refrigerator, saying she's not going to deposit it until she decides what she can use it for that will be a good memorial to Denny.

Grey_McSteamy_136.jpgDysfunction Junction: Addison comes clean to Derek and tells him that she had a relationship with Mark -- not a one-nighter. She tells him that they lived together for two months after Derek left… until she caught Mark cheating on her. Derek is livid. "All I want is Seattle and I never want to see you again," he spits. When Derek gets on the elevator, he comes face to face with… Meredith. She finally tells him that she broke up with Finn, but he's in such a pissy mood from Addison that all he says is "Okay." Later, Addison and Mark are in bed together again.

That McSteamy gets a lot of action

So, I was kind of pissed at Derek, just because he had that whole, "I'm in love with you forever" speech that was really perfect, but maybe someone should remind him of that! I get that he's upset, his wife didn't tell him the truth, that hurts... but what has Mer done wrong in comparison? I know she's annoying and doesn't handle too many situations properly, but he LOVES her, he apparently loves her so much that he felt it was necessary to tell his WIFE (in season 2) before he even told Mer. And now he's upset. Maybe I'm demented and strange, but when I'm upset I need to be with people I love, it helps, walking away from them doesn't help...
All I'll say is that he better be walking away to have some ALONE time, because if he's considering being with anyone else, then he's not actually in love. When you've got the option of the person you love, or some complete stranger, you take the person you love. No matter how dark and twisty she may happen to be, it's just what you do. Please! (Seriously!)

So i kinda hate McSteamy, and I have to tell you- as much of a Grey's junky as I am, Last night left a bad taste in my mouth. It wasn't at all what I expected, and I have to say although I'm dissapointed I have faith that the writers will crank out another, non boring episode soon.

ps- did u read Grey Matter? A lot of people are giving them sh*t over the episode. Cast squabbles for a good show doesnt make!!

great recap, filled in a few things I did not know.
Lame show indeed. Now get this: McSteamy supposedly LOVES Addison, but sleeps with Callie (then back to Addison later); Callie had met him all of 30 seconds, asks him up to her room and they do the deed; goodbye George; McDreamy supposedly LOVES Meredith, but totally blows her off when she tells him she broke off with McVet! And I really did not appreciate Dr. Savoy attacking Dr. Bailey, but later when he started at her again, Alex was about to bust him up, until Dr. Bailey called him off (love that Alex!). I'm venting big time: Deposit the check, Izzie!
The only part I enjoyed last night was Dr. Burke finally telling Izzie what she did to Denny caused him to be in the line of fire and get his arm hurt. I was so glad he made her face up to that!

Ok - I wasn't the only one underwhelmed by last night's episode. Nothing happened. Izzy did nothing. McDreamy did nothing. Even Meredith did nothing. I do like some of the patienct-centered episodes, but it has to have some doctor drama in!

Derek walked away because he's in pain over having spent an entire year "doing the right thing" for utterly the wrong reason. And for all he knew, Mer told Finn goodbye only after hearing he was now divorced. She didn't say, "Don't be the better man, don't walk away." She didn't say she loved him. She just said she broke up with Finn. Right after he realized what he'd wasted his time on, and what he'd thrown away. It wasn't exactly a moment of clarity for him, it was--wow, I left these problems, they followed me here, and now I get to watch them haunt me every single day at my job.

Based on Thursday night and the coming attractions, McDreamy is turning into That Divorced Guy you don't want to fall in love with and Mer is looking like the Transitional Girlfriend he will, as he promised, hurt Again. And Again. And Yet Again. How many years of therapy would it take for her to get she shouldn't have let Finn go?

I think the random girl is his sister. I can't beieve he's a bad guy, the promo just wants us to think that so we'll tune in.

I really like Mark and Addison together. Even though the adultery business was bad, I just think Mark is way better at fighting for Addison than Derek is. I agree that Meredith is too whiny...

Last episode was boring. The first time I didn't "rewatched" it next day - nothing remotely interesting happened. Divorce procedure was boring, Meredith's announcement of split up with vet was boring (they could've made it more dramatic). Derec was boring, even Miranda slowed down.
I understand also they have to have show running the whole season - what else can happen with Mer and Der relantionships for they are the primary reason show had that smashing success?
Addison gets pregnant? Mer will transfer to another hospital? Derek will volunteer to go to Iraq and gets wounded? It's better be smth really intruiging.

Do you honestly expect that every single episode of every single series of every single drama sitcom comedy whatever is going to be 100% fantastic blow you out of the water? Every series is going to have some type of episode that you don't absoultey love. There's been alot going on with all the characters. I thought it was refreshing slowing down for a bit and letting the viewers taken in all that has been going on. I say quit your bitchin and if you don't like it.. Don't watch! good hell.
