American Idol Finale Recap: May 23
Blake Lewis' first song ("You Give Love a Bad Name") was the best of the night, but Jordin Sparks did better overall. I believe there was an unfair disadvantage though.
For instance, the song they each had to sing that was chosen in the songwriter competition, "This Is My Now." I mean, come on! What was Blake supposed to do with that song?
And to top that off.. that was the winning song? That's what they whittled it down to? I wonder how many people entered? Let's hope the "Great American Band Contest" FOX is doing is more captivating. I digress...
At the end of the competition, Simon revealed how he was right, (of course) AND he even admitted he was wrong. This is what he said of each...
To Blake: I always said there was talent in Seattle, and I was right.
To Jordin: I did not think you were good enough to be in the finals.. but he "publicly" admitted he was wrong.
Randy, who obviously has adored Jordin from the start, gave Blake a few blah comments. Remember he used to say that Blake's bread and butter was his beatboxing and that he should do it every time. But then he changed his mind and became totally uninterested.
The Dawg whooped it up for his girl Jordin though, calling her the most talented 17-year-old he's ever heard sing!
As Simon said, Blake's the better performer and Jordin's the better singer. But who has more fans dialing for them?

I was really frustrated last night with that "This is my now" song. I mean seriously i think that Blake did the best he could with that song. Why would they choose a song like that for the winning song and give one finalist (Jordin) an advantage over the other. that was really unfair. i was very disgusted. Seriously they both are great but if i had to choose a winner it would definitely be Blake. he's a fun guy that'll keep me on my feet. Jordin might win tonight, afterall Blake was in the bottom 2 with Melinda and Jordin was good last night for a fact. but i'm really bored seriously when she sings. but she has a great voice so if she does win i guess she deserves it. Well good luck to them both.

dude i knoww. didnt kat and taylor have two different songs last year kat with my destiny and taylor with do i make you proud? well this is my now SUCKSSS they shoulda given blake a more like upbeat song that he could make his own and beatbox to. i mean he coulda changed it up a bit but honestly, what was he supposed to do? terrible song, terrible choice, coulda ruined it for blake. ps if blake loses, im KILLING those songwriters. AI needs to do away totally with the crap songs they force onto the final two (& ultimately the winner). I want Jordin to win, but this smacks of what happened last year. End the misery! Let the kids sing!!
Apparently you all forget THIS IS A SINGING CONTEST!!! not a beat box contest. Sanjaya was "entertaining" - should he have won. Blake never sang good the whole competition. The one time he tried to just sing - Maroon 5's "She Will Be Loved," he sounded like crap like he always does when he sings. Jordin is the best singer. He could have made the song his own (with out all the stupid crap he tries to put into every song) - I sure they didn't tell him what key to sing it in, etc. . . Face it. The guy can't sing and should not even be in a singing competition. So you thing he should win because in a portion of one song last night he did some good beat boxing? PLEASE. . . American Idiots.
Jordin is so annoying ... do we really need another ballad singer? Bo-ring.
i agree with you carrie. I am tired of these oversung, melodramatic, hopless romantic balladeers. and i think that the last thing we need is another song illustrating the hardships of becomming a singer. seriously, "this is my now"...what the hell was that? blake didn't have a prayer with that and i thought that jordin oversang it anyway. it is like i said before, american idol is old. we know that a recording studio can make anyone sound great (even paris hilton), what is this show's attraction anymore?
If anything has been emphasized it is that A.I. is an effort to discover America's best singer. Blake was likable and very entertaining but definatley not the best singer. He should have gone off last week so two real singers could have finished the race. If Jordin doesn't win, this year will be confusing. It won't make since. It's Melinda's CD I am looking for and I hope there are some gosple tracks.
Sometimes I wonder why some people got to the top--and I mean the pros? Blake is just not an IDOL. He is cutsy but there are so many of those. Last year the best voice did not win so lets not do that again. Melinda should be up there, anyway. But, the teens are calling and calling and calling. So it amounts to how many calls, not who is the best voice and entertainer.

robert it's in the column. It's called This is My Now. I liked it to. It's perfect for the competition.
This is my personal opinion only--I think when it is a "Final Show" the contestants should be able to choose the song that best suits their personal tastes and personality. They know themselves better than anyone else does. No one should pick the song for them. I think this is a disadvantage and proved to be so for Blake.
