The View: Awwwk-ward!
So much for my ban on talking about Rosie O'Donnell. Girl just can't stop causing trouble. Despite a previous vow to stop hasseling Elisabeth Hasselbeck after the youngest View cohost announced she was pregnancy, she's back to feuding with the blonde darling. On today's show, Rosie called Elisabeth "cowardly" for not sticking up for her when the media said she had referred to the U.S. troops in Iraq as terrorists. The arguement originally stemmed from a debate last week over the meaning of the word "terrorist." During the debate, Rosie asked, "655,000 Iraqi civilians are dead. Who are the terrorists?"
But Elisabeth wants her fans to know that it'll take a lot more than a heated political debate with Rosie to rattle their off-screen friendship. She told Extra, "I am fine. We are used to debating things there. You have women who care a lot about things." The 29-year-old continued, "The best thing about today is that there's no slow boil, none. It's there, it's an issue, it's dealt with and it's over. If there are tensions, [and] obviously there was, it's dealt with in the moment."
Elisabeth did, however, mention that Thursday morning's show might be a bit, um, uncomfortable. "It'll be a little awkward, I'm sure," she said. "Whenever we have a heated debate, the next day is awkward. I bet we'll talk about some fun things."
Do you believe Rosie and Elisabeth really are friends when the cameras stop rolling? Should Elisabeth have defended Rosie, or is that just the nature of differing opinions? Weigh in below.

Elizabeth showed a lot of class and tact. I used to love Rosie but some of her comments have been bizarre and insensitive (i.e. insinuating that 9/11 was an inside job of the U.S. gov't and that Bush orchestrated 9/11 NOT terrorist, insinuating that soldiers and Americans are the real terrorists, etc.). Rosie can take her outlandish statements out on Elizabeth all day, but in the end she has to take responsibilty for what she says. I miss the old, nice, funny Rosie. Come back please cuz you are alienating a lot of us! We will give u another chance just please come back. By the way, I am a moderate.
I have quit watching The View because of Rosie. I grew up in the 60's so i feel like I have a strong connection to the liberals, but we are in a different era and I find Rosie to be hateful and crass. I would say that I also used to really enjoy Rosie but I now find her boring and bitter. Three week seems so long for her to be there. In the corporate world where I work if a person is leaving and we feel that they are a detriment to the company and the others that are staying....we let them go early. Let her go and pay her....she is not worth the hassle that she causes.
Yeah, Rosie is an overbearing twit. But her views are shared by a scary number of Americans. Her bitterness is a product of Americans as a whole. Politics used to be a discussion of ideas, now it is nothing but demeaning comments and belittling rhetoric. Why are we all so hateful? There are a lot of people out there who seriously want to destroy what we stand for and instead of finding ways to deal with that, we instead are destroying ourselves, and for what? Rosie can say what she wants (it is her right,) but it is us who ultimately pay the price. Rosie (and those like her) needs to move on (into obscurity.)
Rosie needs to apologize and so does ABC. I am boycotting them until ABC and Disney until they apologize. Sadly, ABC is making Rosie's anti-American sentiments more mainstream (i.e. insinuating Americans are the terrorist, our gov't caused 9/11, etc.). She might as well spit on the suriviving family members of the victims of 9/11 and the soldiers in Iraq. My brother died in 9/11. She is really hurting people like me but she thinks she is doing all this for my good. She is mistaken. She is disrespecting me and my family and so is ABC.
Rossie is a classic bully. She can dish it out, but she can't take it. She says hateful, outlandish things on the air about people daily and when she gets called on it, her feelings get hurt. Wah! Wah!
I am so glad to see Elizabeth finally stand up to BOTH Joy and Rossie! Joy seems to set the stage for trouble to stir and then lets Rosie finish it off so she needs to take some blame as well.
i guess i saw something different but it seemed to me it was elizabeth who was being loud and not able to answer a simple question. i've watched a lot of the view this season and frankly it really does seem people are not hearing what rosie says. her words keep getting twisted in the press and that's what people believe. she has said time and time again that she very much supports the troops and wants them home asap. what she doesn't support is the war or the bush administration. the way they (bush admin) have entered a war against a country that did not attack us and against the united nations, of which USA is a member. she has also said these are HER views and no one has to believe them but maybe question some of the good points she has brought to light. there is no need for the hostilities and i agree she too can be loud at times but it is mainly because she is frustrated that she keeps getting misquoted and that elizabeth cannot seem to open her eyes.
Lindsey it is obvious that you did not see the show or you wouldn't be calling Elizabeth a darling and saying Rosie is picking on her. Elizabeth was extremely obnoxious. Shouting and pointing fingers and talking over Joy everytime she opened her mouth. I totally agree with hab.
williams has got it all wrong politics is not just a discussion of ideas. the party in office determines how we the people live our lives.Bush has already destroyed what the American people stand for.
Rosie's arguments make more sense. Elizabeth seems unable to have an original thought.
After being a completely loyal fan of The View until Rosie came along, it just simply does not matter what happens now; for the show has really been tarnished!!!! :-(
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. It's one of the wonderful freedoms we have in this country (that too many of us take for granted) that was won through the bravery and blood of many of our fellow Americans over the past few centuries. This recent 'invasion' by our country into Iraq is shameful and painful! It is George Bush that is to blame for this mess however, and those that RE-elected this misguided egomaniacal idiot! Our men and women are over there fighting, killing, and dying and it's breaking my heart, because they are only following orders, bravely and unquestioningly...although I have to believe many of them do not agree with what is going on. It's tragic for BOTH countries, and devastating for our image with both our enemies and our allies! There are probably a lot of us that agree with some of Rosie's ideas, but I'm afraid her insensitive, loud, crude way of expressing herself is causing her to lose credibility, and people are starting to tune her out,...literally!
I used to not like Rosie until she came on the show. She may be loud and obnauxious but she say's things that people are afraid to say but think. Elizabeth just seems so annoying and acts like a spoiled brat alot of the times and too much of a people pleaser. She defiently is not a leader and that's why Rosie and her clash. The war is not all rainbows and sunshine and Rosie is totally right... Bush is destroying our country and our country's image not to mention killing our men and women in a war that no one has a plan for. But when someone is that outspoken of course the media is going to have a hayday trying to twist what she said. Thier trying to make a living like everyone else is and things like that sell. After Rosie leaves I don not have any plans of ever watching the show again.
Elisabeth is a harpy that needs to have her contract pulled, so she can head to Fox News where she belongs. I find it hard to understand how she can be allowed to constantly interrupt or talk over the co-hosts and guests and not lose her job. Some like to forget that this whole brouhaha began with a review of Ron Paul's assertion that we need to review and change our Middle East policies to help prevent future terrorist acts. Elisabeth like other Republican pundits would have people believe that terrorism forms in a vacuum with religious zealots. The U.S. has supported so many regimes in the Middle East that deprive their people with basic human rights. Anger breeds terrorism. Rosie did not call the troops terrorists. She asked Elisabeth to define who exactly the terrorists are that the Bush Administration keeps trying to scare us with. She pointed out that to the Iraqi people, we look like terrorists. The Bush Administration policies are terrible, not the troops. Elisabeth should have backed Rosie.
First to the author...Elizabeth announced she was "pregnant" not "pregnancy."
I keep threatening to stop watching "The View" b/c of Elizabeth. I'm probably closest to being a Libertarian so her blind support of Bush is absolutely beyond annoying. Please go away! Since when does the USA invade countries as "preemptive"? Unbelievable.
Rosie's definitely loud and caustic but at least she has us talking about the war. It's as if we all have our heads in the sand and don't want to think about what's going on in Iraq. Bring our troops home!
