Entourage Recap: July 1, 2007

E_Entourage_Turtle_136.jpgAll the guys are now crashing at Johnny Drama’s. We open to Turtle looking through Johnny’s cabinets to find only health food. Turtle is feeling a little displaced because he can’t masturbate in private and can’t find decent food to eat. Poor guy. Does he realize that he’s out of work because Vince hasn’t a dime, and he’s lucky to be living on Drama’s air mattress?

E_Entourage_LisaRinna_136.jpgAnd yes, ok, we get it, Vince can get the girl and always does. Johnny Drama can never get the girl, even when it seems like the “girl” is throwing herself at him. Tonight, Johnny meets up with his lover from the 90s. Gosh, they make the 90s sound so long ago. Lisa Rinna plays the “old” flame. After all that Dancing with the Stars and playing Roxie Hart in Chicago, I’d be glad to look like her when I’m her age. With her, she brings her friend, Marjorie, who is being set up with Turtle. He is appalled because Marjorie is not exactly his type, but because Drama begs him, and because, let’s face it, they’re all good guys in the end, Turtle agrees to take one for the team. Lisa Rinna’s character decides to trade Drama for Turtle, though, and Drama ends up nearly drowning in a hot tub to flee Marjorie’s voluptuous grasp. (This would be covered in the more advanced Women’s Studies course, by the way.)

The best part of this episode is when on the way to meet the old flame and friend, Vince tags along in the backseat but is propositioned by some girl in a sports car stopped at a light next to them. Vince makes it all look very easy to Johnny and Turtle, and they let him take off with her to Dennis Hopper’s beach house.

Last weekend, E tells Vince that he does not like Medellin. Unfortunately, in a desperate attempt to woo Billy as director at the outset, E and Vince give Billy final cut. One of Billy’s engineers slyly comments to E that the trailer is better than the film itself. Feeling validated, E is about to gives his notes on the film to Billy, when Billy refuses to allow E a chance to comment and then drops the bomb that he’s already submitted the film to Cannes. E then runs to Ari to tell him what he thinks of the film, and Ari basically says, “Well, you wanted that director…nannynannypoopoo.” However, after seeing the trailer, Ari thinks he can sell it because of Lloyd’s positive reaction.

Actually, I lied. The best part of this episode is when Lloyd talks about the energy in the room. He has really become more of a partner to Ari than a lackey. Their dialogue is quick and their points well made. Can we please have more scenes from them?

E continues to freak out, takes the great trailer to Harvey and asks him to buy then out. Now remember, Harvey is the guy E and Vince outbid for the Medellin script. E is now begging the man they screwed over to rescue the film (and Vince and E) from ruin. I think we’re seeing a little New York neuroses here from E, which I love. We also get a little “Devil Wears Prada” from Harvey when he throws the trailer tape at his assistant. Meanwhile, Vince is gambling with money he doesn’t have because he’s pretty much awe-struck at hanging out with Dennis Hopper. Vince finally lucks out and makes $100,000.

I guess the writers leave everything open a little bit. Vince finally agrees that maybe the movie is too long, but then E might be convinced that he should watch the film again. Maybe E’s a little “too close to it,” Vince explains. Even though Vince claims to be this down to earth guy, he does have a hint of Ari in him. I find Vince a little condescending when he tells E maybe his ego is hurt when no one will listen to his criticism. I do not believe for a minute that E is concerned with anything else but his wallet. In any event, the film ends up making it to Cannes, but will it get picked up? I guess they've also once more stabbed Harvey in the back.

It seems like it will be Vince’s luck in the end that gets things rolling back to dinners at Mr. Chow and proper living in a new mansion.

am i remembering incorrectly? i thought harvey let them outbid him on medellin. or was that someone else? everything will work out for vince because everything always does. agreed on ari/lloyd. they should give them a spinoff and ditch the entourage.

Harvey had nothing to do with the purchase of Medillin. The problem with Harvey stems from the refusal to be in some surfing (I think) movie in Australia that Vince and E said they would do with Harvey at Sundance. The boys backed out when Vince got Aquaman with Cameron.

Will, I think you might be mistaken, but Igelje, you are probably right. They put up such a fight, though, that he just gave in. I still think he otherwise wouldn't have had competition for the script. I'm overanalyzing this...

actually, i'm wwrong and will is right! it was joe roberts who would buy medellin for vince if he did matterhorn who backed out and let vince buy it. the harvey scuffle was from sundance. and, err, why do i care... i should be commenting on so you think you can dance instead.

just found this on another website:

"Has nobody noticed that Marjorie and the fat woman who showed Drama one of the condos he refused are both played by the same woman? That would be Colleen Camp, in my opinion one of the hottest women on the planet, 25 years and about 150 pounds ago of course. (The French Maid from "Clue" if you're still wondering)"

I did some research, and I stand corrected about the outbidding for the script, but the boys did screw over Harvey at one point...they'll no doubt do it again.
