So you think you can dance (dance dance dance dance…)
Welcome to Thursday’s eliminations show, where the untrained dancers get cut and the skilled ones with so-solos get to stay!
Cat, glad to see that after one and a half seasons, wardrobe has stopped hazing you and finally allowed you to venture into the realm of normal dressers. Granted, tonight’s ensemble is a little more of my sorority days than present, but can’t judge you there, girl! Are you going vintage? Please say yes.
That opening number was rather lengthy, and pretty blazing fast to boot. “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” is uptempo in general, but trying to stunt and stay on time to that must have seemed crazy. The dancers may not have enjoyed it much, but the number was patriotic with its vintage military costumes and Christina Aguilera-esque tribute. I half expected Benji to jump out and start his “Candyman” performance.
Speaking of Christina Aguilera, has anyone else been following the musical cues on this show? They used a Lloyd song for a performance and then Lloyd performed, they’ve used Fergie’s entire album and she's performed, then Enrique and Hilary? Is there some sort of media connection I’m not finding here? It seems like they’re begging Christina to make an appearance.
Right off the bat, Anya & Danny, Jaimie & Hok and Lauren & Neil weren’t safe. And I totally went three for three on that one! As Mary swore allegiance to Anya & Danny, you could practically see Nigel rolling his eyes out of camera range.
But first up, we have Jason Samuels Smith, who happens to be Debbie Allen’s cousin. I bet she even set the whole thing up, since apparently he’s one of the WORLD’S FOREMOST TAPPERS. He made sure to mention in the fine print that he alsoteachesatAlvinAileyshouldanyonebeinterestedinpayinghimforlessons, thankyou. If only it didn’t require buying new footwear, I’d be all over it like white on rice; the guy was pretty incredible.
"Did I mention my cousin has a WORLD FAMOUS DANCE ACADEMY?"
PS: The Robson and Mia Michaels were nominated for Emmys for SYTYCD. Both are nominated for Outstanding Choreography against the other, and their competition is the dudes from Tony Bennett: An American Classic and Dancing With Celebrities. What Nigel failed to mention: that he and Ken Warwick, the executive producers of American Idol, were slated to be the executive producers of this year’s Emmys, but backed out in May citing very busy schedules. Did their involvement have anything to do with the nominations? Discuss.
Cliff's Notes time: Anya performed her most energetic performance yet to “Proud Mary,” shaking her shimmery stuff all over the stage. Danny once again was pretty but made me want to take a nap or reorganize my closet -- I just had other, more important things to care about. Jaimie was pretty, Hok’s was for the chicks who love him. Lauren and Neil have done better solos but they were great tonight as well.
Caution: Viewing this outfit requires protective eyewear.
Wherever Enrique goes, the woo-ers follow. Those 13 year old woo-er chicks; they love that guy ... the random dude on stage ... wait, is that really him? It barely looks like him. The greatest emotions I took from the piece were, “Hey, I almost bought his A. Kurtz hat three years ago” and “Oh, it’s over already? That was fast.” Oh, and his drummer looked like a blond Sideshow Bob.
Asfter deliberations, Mary was her usual shade of purple. Nigel must have made her choose between Anya and Danny, because Anya went packing, Nigel citing his usual “This is also a solo competition” line of the not unanimous decision. I’m just glad they didn’t cut Jaimie when her teacher was in the audience. Next to go was Hok in a unanimous decision. Darn; he was fun. Guess he'll just Mr. Bojangle his way back for the finale.
Newly single! Cooks Italian! Loves to dance!
Last night was a tragic end to more of our favorites. The ones left pulled together like a school of fish trying to appear larger and more intimidating. However, I for one am thrilled at finally being able to crop the group photo to its mandatory blog size without cutting anyone out. Observe:
Lacey: "No one would've missed Kameron if you'd cut him out, anyway."
Should Anya and Hok have been the ones to go?
Will Wade or Mia win their Emmy categories?
Who do you think is gunning for a future musical performance spot?

Danny shoulda been the one to go... nice dancer but dead inside and the smile never goes all the way to his eyes. At lease Hok is genuine and entertaining.
Jamie's teacher and more importantly, Danny's mother!!! It's beyond me why they are trying to ignore that fact?
my vote's for christina aguilera!!
Wow. I can't believe Lacey said that about Kameron.... How rude!
I hope that Christina Aguilera does perform!! That would be so much better than most of the other performers. She can sing. OHH .. and lacey's quote thingy is soo mean omg! I'd miss kameron! lol but not as much as neil!

Just to set the records straight:
The producers of So You Think You Can Dance saw Emmy & American Choreography Award Winning Tap Dancer Jason Samuels (note spelling) Smith perform when he was being awarded the GREGORY HINES HUMANITARIAN AWARD a month earlier. Debbie was asked to present the award to him by the non-profit organization Everybody Dance which gives thousands of underprivleged kids in LA free dance programs year round. When they were introduced to the executive producers at this event they were immediately asked to be apart of their show - Debbie as a guest judge and Jason as a special guest performer respectively. And if you really feel like tap dancing, we'd be happy to help find you a donated pair of shoes :-)
Hok should've stayed... the second he got eliminated, I wanted to cry. he deserves to be in the top 10 and the judges ignored the whole fact that he is untrained as well and still an amazing dancer.
