Housewives and Nip/Tuck Go Gay

We all know sex sells. But the producers of Desperate Housewives and Nip/Tuck apparently think same-sex sex will sell even more. Both shows are bringing homosexual relationships into main plot points this season.

E_PortiaJoely_136.jpgDon't worry, Nip/Tuck hasn't leaked any info about seeing Rosie O'Donnell engaged in any steamy sex romps with an on-camera girlfriend (though I'm sure Donald Trump would looove that). No, word has it that Ellen Degeneres's real-life lover Portia de Rossi gets Julia McNamara (Joely Richardson) to switch teams. Steamy sex romps ensue. Cue the male audience right about... now.

E_gaycouple_136.jpgOver on Wisteria Lane, the first gay couple is moving on in. Tuc Watkins, from One Life to Live, and Kevin Rahm, of Judging Amy, have been cast as new kids on the block Bob and Lee. According to TV Guide, Lee is the bitchy half of the couple. The DH gay twist might work, but I bet ratings would be even higher if Bree (Marcia Cross) turned lesbian on us.

What do you think about these plot twists? Will they deliver the ratings the networks are hoping for? Or is the idea just too played out at this point? Anything you want to say to the producers of these shows?

Nobody is watching this exploitive TV crap but the uneducated, pervs and weirdos, and that includes recent cartoons. Most shows are TIVO'ed and censored for viewing, no lie. Eveyone else is blogging, playing console or video games, watching old movies and living normal lives., because they share their homes with minors and the elderly who would be offended K? Too much sex, violence and overboard on the criminal and sleaze is killing TV.

Not an old fart myself but the lack of good writing & scripts I sure can see why old farts called Television the Idiot Box. I'll take the classic shows of yesteryear over the CRAP they put out now a days along with the actors.

Why does it have to be thrown in our faces all of the time? Yes, we all have gay friends and family members, but why aren't they treated on television as just ordinary people?

I've watched Nip/Tuck for a couple years now and it pushes the GROSS envelope a lot, but I'm getting tired of the gay thing getting so prevalent on tv - it's like Monkey-see, Monkey-do...One show did it, so we should too. They only do it for ratings but it just kind of grosses me out. I really don't care to see hot sexy scenes between two women. OR men. Ick.

I happen to be gay myself, and I, for one, could do without the gay/lesbian AND straight sex garbage. 99 percent of my friends love The "L" Word... Queer as Folk...blah blah blah. Personally, I don't want to watch a movie that is so freakin' focused on sexuality...whether it is focused on gay lives or straight lives. If I want that, I'll rent porn...thank you very much.

One more thing...

For Leisa... it is your own perogative if you don't want to see "hot sexy scenes between two women. OR men. Ick"...as you said. However, it's just as fair for you to put up with that "garbage" as for me to put up with the straight sex thrown in my face all the time. Sorry... but welcome to 2007. Bottom line... if you don't want to watch it, do what I do CHANGE THE CHANNEL.

atta girl Barbara.
you tell it how it is.
I am straight... and I can't be bothered watching hot steamy sex scenes from ANYONE.
I don't believe it belongs on tv.... MAYBE LATE NIGHT after the kids are in bed.
But WHY does it have to be thrown in ANYONE'S FACE.
I agree.
CHANGE THE CHANNEL if you don't like what's on...... easy enough these days with remote controls.
you press a button and away it goes.

life is too short to watch something you are uncomfortable with.

Back in the day shows required married couples to be shown with separate twin beds, nowadays, almost anything goes. Everyone is numb to it. It's kind of sad that not much is left to imagination, gay or straight. I certainly don't want to revert back to twin beds, but I could do with a little more imagination. As for adding gay couples to shows, I think at this point in our lives, we all should agree that realistically there are more gay people out there than my granny would like to admit :), so I think it's bound to be added to most shows, but maybe they shouldn't be just adding "token" gay couples.

This is the modern age and i guess people are more open about their sexuality. Don;t forget Sex and the City already showed gay scenes with Stanford kissing other men and stuff, but its also true there is a limit to what they should show.

when i read the new plot twist for nip/tuck, at first i thought "hmm, that could be interesting" but then i remembered there was the whole subplot about christian possibly being in love with sean so it's kinda sorta been done before. i love the show but i tend to agree with everyone else in the "why does there have to be a gay storyline on every show nowadays?".

hearing this also makes me wonder when the gay storyline will hit lost.

I don't want to see a gay relationship on Desparate Housewives. It's a show that is supposed to be about "Housewives" not the men. Personally, I don't need to see all of the sex they're pushing on tv. My kids have been forced to see this **** even on the stupid cartoons they watch sincebefore they were even 10! I can't believe the details they come out with! Whatever happened to sensorship? My house has 7 tvs and the kids have friends houses they go to = you just can't block everything. Do they need to have homosexuality shoved in their faces at every turn when they are growing up and discovering their own sexual orientations? Stop shoving it at us. Please!
