TV Recap: Grey's Anatomy January 10, 2008

Welcome Back to a New Year and Grey’s Anatomy!!

grey's-1.10.08.jpg

And we’re back. With Bailey narrating? She talks about God’s creation of the world. When she gets to the point where man is created, she says “God created man and it’s been downhill ever since.”

Sloane and Shepherd are out hiking. They are talking about Sloane’s thing for Hahn. And Shepherd’s kiss with Rose. But Shepherd has brought Sloane to the top of this mountain to show him where his new house will be. They look out over a beautiful valley.

Back at the post party Grey house, Shepherd talks to Meredith while she makes an omelet. He wants her to say how she feels about the house because it will be her house too. CUE Meredith dropping egg. That seems pretty sudden. Then again, maybe not. She committed to him the day before. Wait no, I don’t remember them talking about co-habitating.

Upstairs, Alex wakes Izzie up, and she laments how she hates work. She hates Cristina and Hahn. She also hates the smell of the cooking in the house. In George’s room, Lexi and George are sleeping …in separate locations. They wake up to complain about the nasty smell. Lexi goes out of the room causing George to gag. How does anyone mess up eggs to the point of smelling? Gross. I’m a bad cook, but not that bad.

On the stairs, Alex runs into Lexi. She’s cold about the whole Ava situation, which I don’t blame her. He says Ava is not his girlfriend, and there’s a little bit of warmth beneath the surface. Everything is not lost for these two.

In a different household, Bailey coaches her husband through everything that needs to be done while she’s at work. She’s in a total rush, but Tucker asks her if she’s interested in being part of the family. She busts out of the room saying she can’t do it now. Poor Tucker. He knows how centuries of women feel. Stuck home with a baby and an absent, dismissive spouse.

At Seattle Grace, Hahn and Callie meet on the elevator, and they seem to have really hit it off. They laugh over how much fun they had drinking the night before. Another friendship in the works here. Good for Callie, she needs more friends. And her, Hahn and Cristina all seem like loners. But we can’t be alone all the time; we’d get lonely. Sloane shows up on the floor they are getting off on, and they make fun of him. His obsession with Hahn is hilarious.

Rose and Shepherd run into each other. He pokes fun of her eating habits. She tells him that he can learn more about her during a dinner. Luckily, we all know he’s not a total dog. He says he can’t because of Meredith. They have now officially committed to one another and he can’t do that. Rose says she already knew about their relationship.

Cristina and Izzie run into each other. They seem cold, but Izzie says she’s over cardio. At first Cristina doesn’t buy it, and she taunts Izzie with a patient. Izzie walks away with other charts. Hahn strolls over. She wants Izzie for the case Cristina is waving around. Izzie says no. Cristina says it’s her patient, but Hahn takes Alex as her resident instead. Man Cristina’s domineering spirit keeps getting shut out. When everyone goes into the patient’s room, the patient is gone.

In the hallway, Callie runs into George’s mom. She doesn’t know that they are over. She talks to Callie about them trying to get pregnant. So she has prepared a bit in advance. Callie awkwardly looks on at the baby’s clothes.

Bailey talks to Tucker on the phone, but she has to hang up because there is an alarm going off in a patient’s room. The patient was having issues all day, but the minute the missing Hahn patient, Ms. Archer, laid hands on the man, his monitors stopped beeping. She had helped him. Apparently she’s a healer.

Gotta have Faith

Ms. Archer has a pending coronary artery dissection. Since she believes in the energy of laying hands she exhaust all options before surgery. Cristina watches Alex and Hahn argue with Ms. Archer, but eventually Hahn expects Alex to take care of the psychology of the situation. She can’t deal with it anymore.

George stumbles upon Lexi searching for pills. She has a full rash on her face. Lexi is allergic to eggs, and she ate them to make Meredith feel better. She doesn’t want to ruin the relationship that’s beginning to form. Interrupting George administering a shot, Callie confronts him with the baby clothes. She is beyond upset that he never told his mother about their situation. Now he has to give her a dose of the truth while he’s at work.

In the hall, Meredith literally runs into Derek, and he wants to hear her opinion on the house. She tries to avoid the conversation. She feels sideswiped but she just told Derek that she’s committed.

Chief stalks Bailey about the healer. Tucker keeps calling Bailey during their conversation, but she won’t answer the phone. She tells the Chief that he has her full attention. She will take care of the healer so she doesn’t cause chaos in the hospital with people trying to avoid surgeries.

Sloane brings Hahn her patient. He found her healing his patient with staff infection. Sloane tries to flirt with Hahn, but she keeps rebuffing him. She’ll give him a backward compliment/insult, and he’ll take it as a straight compliment.

Izzie runs into Mrs. O’Malley. Mrs. O’Malley mentions George’s problems, meaning with getting Callie pregnant. But this causes Izzie to spill everything. She reveals the adultery, the pending divorce and George’s failing his intern test. Mrs. O’Malley stands there shocked. George walks over, and Izzie walks off saying she’s sorry.

Bailey talks to Tucker on the phone. She tells him she can’t talk because she’s getting paged. He says he’s the one paging her, and she doesn’t understand until she walks into the ER. She sees the EMT’s bringing her child, Tuck, into the hospital on a stretcher.

Danger Zone

Bailey, the Chief and Shepherd work on Tuck. They give him a full exam to see what needs to be done. Bailey questions Tucker about what happened. Apparently the baby gate was left open. Tuck crawled into her office and he pulled the bookshelf on top of him. Yelling ensues on Bailey’s end, and Tucker counters with her irresponsibility that morning. The Chief has them quiet down so they can finish Tucker’s evaluation.

Mrs. O’Malley questions George. She is really upset with his decisions. She can’t accept his actions. She says they are Catholics, and they don’t believe in divorce or adultery. She doesn’t respect the man he has become, and she wants him to make it work with Callie. PAGER. George has to go because Bailey paged him.

The Chief asks Meredith to keep Bailey calm. Bailey doesn’t exactly take this lightly She wants to be fully involved with her son, and she will not be babysat by one of her residents.

Alex goes to see Ms. Archer who is the in the room with other healers. He calls the hand laying crap. She says surgery is barbaric. He doesn’t believe in what she does. She doesn’t care; she just wants his help so she can do it. She needs him to describe her surgery while her fellow healers lay hands. And he has to describe it without his normal cynical thoughts.

Cristina, Izzie and Meredith discuss Bailey’s baby. Cristina says he needs to be treated like any other patient. Izzie wants him to receive special treatment. She calls Cristina a robot, which Cristina takes the nickname with joy. She says they have to be robots to do their job well. Meredith watches the two of them without saying much. She doesn’t seem to have an opinion formed on distance in surgery.

More calmly while Tuck receives a CT scan, Bailey and Tucker discuss why the baby ended up in the hospital. He says someone left the gate open. Clearly pointing his finger at Bailey. She starts to feel the guilt of her decisions. He tells her the baby crawled into the room where Bailey goes because he’s looking for his mom.

Rose and Shepherd talk about the kiss and she is so cool. She just wants to have a professional relationship. She doesn’t want to have him look down at papers and not look at her eyes. She wants to be friendly if not friends. George walks in on their convo, but instead of saying something, he just stays listening like a fly on the wall.

The residents look at Bailey’s baby’s x-ray. Bailey walks in to tell them what’s wrong with the patient. She treats him exactly as if he were a patient. She matter of factly talks about what’s wrong with him. Then she ends with “he could die.” And she tells them to go grab Hahn and prep an OR – sergeant mode.

Everything is Broken

Greys-1.10.08.jpg

Grey updates Bailey on the status of her baby. Bailey busts into the OR, and Hahn won’t proceed until Bailey leaves the OR. But Bailey must always be in control, Bailey gets emotional saying she wants to hold Tuck’s hand. Then Cristina steps up saying she will hold his hand while Lexi takes over he position in the surgery. Emotion from Cristina? She must have been moved by Bailey’s emotions.

Callie goes up to Mrs. O’Malley. Mrs O’Malley can’t leave because Bailey took care of Harold (George’s dad). She wants to be there for her. Callie and Mrs. O’Malley talk about God. Callie doesn’t believe in God, but she believes in love. Then she says how much she loved being an O’Malley.

Karev goes into Ms. Archer’s room. The healers feel his energy before he even arrives. They tell him how much he was hurt. They can feel his heart and it’s loving, but he can’t let it out. Ms. Archer says he was a good boy, but he’s not a good man. Then he tells her that her artery is shredding. He says if she doesn’t get this surgery fast, she will die. He hides his emotions behind his masculine, moody façade.

Shepherd goes into a room where Bailey retraces her steps from early that morning. Shepherd tells her that blame is not helping. She cries and blames herself, her priorities. He grabs her and holds her telling her that people make mistakes. He tells her there is no one to blame.

Meredith and George look on as Shepherd comforts Bailey. Meredith talks about Derek’s house, and them building a life together. George reveals his knowledge of the kiss because he thinks she knows about it. He thought they were fighting over that, but now he feels horrible for breaking the news. And Meredith is upset.

In Tuck’s OR, The Chief says they baby’s stomach is repaired. Hahn says they just need to put in the breathing tube and close him up. Cristina talks to the baby telling him how well he’s doing. And Hahn offers Cristina to do the honors of finishing up the surgery but even after Lexi offer’s to hold the baby’s hand, Cristina won’t move. Her dedication to Tuck moved me, but Cristina is stone. But that’s just her façade, they all wear masks of their own device.

Better than Fine

Hahn and the Chief inform Bailey and Tucker about the status of the baby. Bailey gets cocky saying she knew what they were saying. Bailey snidely confronts Hahn about her treatment in the OR. Even after she says she will thank her, she doesn’t want to be near Hahn.

Bailey and Tucker talk about Tuck while they sit with him in a pediatric recovery room. She wants to baptize him, and she says they will find time. ucker walks away from her to stand on the other side of the bed. His feelings for her have changed into pure contempt. It’s really sad because she’s really a great woman. Everyone has problems I suppose.

Izzie and Alex talk about the status Tuck. Alex questions Izzie’s problem with Cristina. She envies Cristina. Cristina has faith in herself and she wants that. She only did cardio because Cristina had a passion for it. She didn’t’ necessarily love it herself.

The Chief walks by to see the healers in Ms. Archers room. Bailey talks about her faith, but she doesn’t think faith can heal. And the Chief says it can’t hurt. I think they are going to lay hands on Tuck so he can breathe on his own.

Meredith and Shepherd run into each other. He asks about Tuck. She asks about Rose. Shepherd tells her the honest truth. Meredith’s response is fair. She says that one minute he’s kissing a nurse and the next day he’s building a house with Meredith. She doesn’t think she can trust him, and he doesn’t think she can trust anyone. He says he can’t do the fighting anymore, and she says, “Neither can I.” Then she walks away.

The Chief and Bailey bring Ms. Archer into Tuck’s room to have her lay hands on him. She needs the family to hold hands with her. Tucker doesn’t want to hold hands with Bailey, and Ms. Archer says in a few minutes they need to forgive each other. And they all grasp hands. A huge group watches on…all the main players of course. It’s super touching.

Lean on Me

Mrs. O’Malley and George sit to discuss his issues. He says he’s not the man he wants to be. He wants to be who he was before when he helped Bailey deliver her baby. Mrs. O”Malley wants George to move back in so she can take care of him. But George says he needs to take care of himself.

Bailey goes into the hallway to tell everyone she appreciates their support but she can’t have them watching her. She needs peace and quiet with her baby. Suddenly Tucker runs out saying Tucks choking. As he freaks out, Bailey runs over and Cristina explains that Tuck is trying to breathe on his own. He’s better, and he no longer needs the breathing tube.

The Tuck situation inspires Alex, and he brings Izzie to Ms. Archer. He tells the healing group that Izzie is an optimist. Her telling them about the procedure will help Ms. Archer. One of the healers notices that Izzie brightens Alex’s aura. He then tells Izzie that she’s better than Cristina. Izzie sits down to discuss the surgery.

Lexi and George stand around watching Bailey. He asks her if she’s still looking for an apartment because he’ll need a place soon. It looks like George and Lexi will be roommates soon. Hmmm...Interesting stuff.

Hahn goes over to Sloane saying they work together so they can’t be together. It has nothing to do with her attraction to him. Then Callie and Hahn leave to go to the bar. Sloane tries to invite himself, but he gets reject so the ladies can have a ladies night.

Shepherd asks Rose to dinner. She says yes. Enough said.

Grey goes in to check on Bailey. She’s stroking Tuck’s head. Apparently Tucker has left to pack his things and stay at a hotel.

Final Thoughts

And that’s all we get until the writers strike is over. So I hope to hear some negotiations soon. Not exactly a cliffhanger, but I want to see more. And I want to share more with you guys.

How does everyone feel about the Rose/Derek dinner? Rose knows about Meredith, is she being shady?

Bailey and Tucker? Over? Bailey working fewer hours? And by the way, I saw Bailey in an episode of Sex and the City. She was a cop trying to stop Samantha from littering the ground with posters calling Richard Wright a liar and a cheat.

Cristina and Hahn? Will they ever solve their issues? Hahn and Sloane? Dates in the future?

Will George and Izzie ever break up so Izzie and Alex can be together? Sorry editorializing.

Until the strike is over my friends.

I do hope that the writers can come to an agreement soon, I too want more! The episode was a good one, Baily had feelings in this episode. Hahn is doing the right thing to sloane how many women have we seen him sleep with, he's a dog.. Meredith can't expect for McDreamy to wait for her forever, in some ways her character acts like a teenaged high schooler, it does get tiring seen Merideth and McDreamy just sleeping together with no real plot!! Izzy and George need to resolve what ever it is that they have!! Lexi is the getting on my nerves she tries to be all innocent looking.. Alex needs to make man decisions not just sleep aroung with Ava. Dr. Bailey is a doctor that is who she is and what she does, 24/7 a doctor. Tucker knew this and should have not expected any less. Interesting things could happen..can't wait

Ok, here is my comment about last night's show. I loved it. I am so sad though, I feel so bad for Bailey, she is a great surgeon and tries to be everything too... mom and wife. It is a hard job, Tucker should lighten up.
I agree, I hope George and Izzie break up soon so Alex and Izzie can be together, I have always thought that they should end up together... Izzie lights him up.. As for Meredith and Derek, I hate the fact that he kissed Rose, and I hate the fact with how cute she is. I am so upset about the whole thing. Derek is a jerk right now, he is selfish. He is pushing Meredith, after all he has done to her. Lying about being married, choosing Addison over her, and now Rose. These are all huge factors in why Meredith is the way she is with Derek. Also the fact that Meredith lost her mother and Susan within weeks of each other, and her father blaming her for Susan's death. Derek should back off, and let her get over these huge factors in her life.
I LOVE GREY'S AND I HOPE THE WRITER STIKE IS DONE!!!

I'm usually the first in line to comment about the show but I"M SO irritated by the writers choice regarding merideth and mcdreamy (I HATE ROSE) they could have went any other way with that but i see
"THIER" time off is more important then makeing a great show last as long as I DONT KNOW say... mash, friends shows people really have a chemistry with. ANYWAYS the plot was good concerning bailey very emotional and her husband should have realized her job description is to help people exspecially being chief. GROW UP and grow a pair buddy. Again izzy and alex will be together did you hear how he glowed in her presence JUST give it time it will happen, whats the saying....? OH YEA what goes around comes around and OH Omalley is going to be alone in the end. izzy dosent know what she wants and when she does people will be hurt. As for lexi?????? Who knows she stares off into space more than meredith does and boy is that scary when they both work in a hospital.hahaha Everyone else is getting a pretty good amount of

I too want more! I kinda hope that Shephard goes for Rose, if nothing else it'll prove to Meredith what she's got and what she's going to lose. I hope that Callie and George get back together and let Izzie find someone for her...either Sloan or the vet--remember the vet that was dating Meredith? He was cute and I thought there might be a chemistry there but it was right after Denny's death, so she was still a bit raw. I'm loving the Hahn/Sloan thing! It's good to see him get his just desserts! Maybe now that Hahn saw a different side of Christina she'll let her in on some good cardio surgeries.

I too loved the episode!! This strike is killing me. I was a big fan of George and Izzie...I will admit that. I thought that they could have something special. But I have been watching old episodes and the lady in this episode was right when she said that Izzie lit up Alex. Alex isn't Alex around Izzie. He is caring and damn cute. There is a big hidden thing with Alex and we are just starting to touch on that. I think this will be the season that we find out what happened to him in the past. I am so over Derek and Meredith. Let him be with Rose for awhile. He and Meredith just can't seem to communicate with each other. It's annoying. Serioulsy!! Bailey, well she is the best!! It was heartbreaking to see her retrace her steps. We have all been there before. Great show!! Hopefully we will see new ones soon!
