10 American Idol Girls Recap: Who Are You?

Be who you are girls!  But just make sure you can vary from time to time.  It's a long way to the end in this competition.

10Kady.jpg

To the girls tonight, Randy started almost every critique with a question like: "What did you think?  So You love that song?  Like that song?"  He was easing into the kill instead of pulling a Simon, "You have to be one heck of a singer and you're not.  The song was too big for you."

In a way, Kady Maloy is the female version of another season seven contestant, Robbie Carrico.  The judges are always on those two about showing their true selves in their music.

Malloy can mimick celebrities.  She does a dead on Brittany.  And tonight she did a pretty good Simon.  Fame and possibly fortune in her future, yes.  The next American Idol, most likely not.  She sang the song, "Magic Man" tonight.  But her real magic may be trying something -poperatic.  She's been singing opera since she was 12.  And AI is the perfect stage for pop music.  Why not combine the two?

Simon says he's frustrated with her song choices..and persona.

Malloy has been progressing into her own.  Tonight she almost had it.  Will she be given another chance to find herself?

Amanda Overmyer didn't show us the same old Janis spiel.  She didn't do anything memorable with her vocals either.  Overmyer did, however, show us she can dance.

10Amanda.jpg

The problem with "Carry On My Wayward Son" was that she was not recognizable.  However, we do need to see if Overmyer can do more than one genre.  But to be safe, I say, bring back the the rock next week so you'll stay alive.  Then show us a different side.  And lose the Cruella Deville hairdo. Dig?

Alexandrea Lushington started really getting my interest toward the end.  That's when "If You Leave Me Now" really started to pick up.  Commenting that she never heard a female take on that song, Paula felt Alexandrea made the song her own.  Simon thought she was struggling and looked uncomfortable.

Brooke White knows who she is and has been consistent.  She's picking the right music and performing them just the right way.  From her vocals to the keyboard and guitar experiences we've shared with her, the "beauty school drop out" seems like a veteran.

 10Brooke.jpg

Simon couldn't help but "notice" Brooke was looking at him while she was singing, "You're So Vain."  Are you kidding me?  He really said that?  Priceless.  And you know he meant it too.

I was right there with Syesha Mercado who was all smiles... until the judges shattered her perfect image of "Mr Jones."

She is fresh and I found the softness in her voice sexy.  Unlike the judges, I don't think you need to belt out that song.  I'd love to hear her version at dinner or while relaxing.

Randy told Syesha, "It's not what you got.  It's a piece of what you've got."

I see it as, it's a different side of Syesha.  You know, branching out and showing us something.  But the girl stayed real.

Simon thought it was "overindulgent, not written for a girl, not designed" for her voice.

Ramiele Malubay had me totally engaged, but again here's a situation where the judges didn't totally agree.

10Ramiele.jpgAccording to the judges, "Don't Leave Me This Way" was not Ramiele's best performance on AI.  That said -- we all agree she's one of the ones to beat in this competition.

 10Kristy.jpg

Kristy Lee Cook says if she makes it to next week, she's going to prove she should stay in the competition.  And she's going to do that with a country song.  Kristy was responding to Simon telling her he doesn't know how to label her.  The judges told her she was better than last week, but what does that really mean?  Remember last week?

10Alaina.jpgAlaina Whitaker, the dark horse of the competition?  That's what Simon says.  Randy said, of her "Hopelessly Devoted to You" performance, "Like that song?  I love Olivia Newton John - not right for you."  Paula followed that up with, "Do you love that song?"

10Carly.jpg

Carly Smithson's talent is undeniable.  "Crazy on You" was intense at times.  She's a powerhouse.  The camera was loving Carly.  She looked really pretty tonight.  The Irish-American rocker says although she misses home, she feels right at home on stage.

10Asia'H.jpgAsia'H Epperson with hair extensions.  What she really needed to extend was some of her notes.  I felt like she kept losing it.  "All By Myself" usually makes me think of the movie, Half Baked, and I laugh.  But tonight I thought of her life.  Her recent father's death.  It was sad.  But I started getting really excited for her when she picked up toward the end.  I thought, she really was not all by herself on that stage after all.

Here are the top 20!  Tomorrow, four contestants will be saying goodbye.

Name which four it will be.  And if you are right, we will all... think you're really intuitive.

I'll take a crack at it:

Boys: Robbie Carrico and Jason Yeager

Girls: Alaina Whitaker and Kristy Lee Cook

Who is that group in the picture? I barely can pick out any of them. Kady will go home tonight and so will Anana and Castro and Luke.

If I had the choice......

Asia'H and Amanda.

Asia'H picked a song way too big for her and it made her look really bad. She can't possibly win this.

Amanda is HORRIBLE. Probably the worst singer ever in the final 12. Listen closely to the song....it's hilarious.

Robbie - needs to go...and before he does he needs to take his wig off in front of all America!!! hahaha

Jason Yeager - no chance....byebye

This is my first time ever leaving a comment. Im brand new to this but I read them all the time.
Id like to see Kristy Lee Cook and Brooke go for the girls. I unfortunately cant remember all the guys names yet. (Except the ones I like!) I think its Jason, the guy with the short hair and the blond patch in the front, Id like to see him go. They are all really good or they wouldnt be there. Im a rock singer myself and know everyone has a bad performance sometimes but those 3, I feel have been a little boring from the start.

This week for me the winners are two Davids, Archuleta, Hernandez and Luke for the boys and the only girl this week is Syesha. It will be interesting to see who the voters pick. It won't be long now and we will be on to the next round

Why do the judges keep telling the contestants to be themselves and then ask them to sing songs from the 60's and 70's. Most of them were not even born - that means they have to be someone else. Give them a break. They are all trying to be something they are not. STARS

I hate when the judges do that. What will happen tonight? I think Robby and Chickez and Syesha and Gina is that her name Gina the rocker with the black and grey hair. They were awful.

David Hernandez is a gay stripper!

k2spot who is amanda?
Carly looks great and then you see that tattoo. Have they asked her why she's done that?

I think that Amanda and Alaina should go home. They just don't have th pipes for this contest. My picks are Brooke - she's true to her style and sings some decent arrangements. The Irish girl is way good too.

I don't think Alaina should have been the one to go home. It should have been Amanda. As for the guys I think the right choices were made. My favorites so far are David A. David H. and for the girls I like Kady and Ramiele. I often wonder would Josiah have still been on the show if he had done things a little differently. I know i need to move on but i really liked him and his story, and for people like him in his situation (living in his car and all). You know there is a site out there that will send an american idol hopeful to an audition all expenses paid. americanidol-auditions This is totally awesome. Could be an opportunity of a lifetime.

Good Luck!!

I like Alexandra very much but her voice is not very good. I think that Amanda and Alaina should go home. My favourite is Ramiele and I hope that she will win the competition.
