TV Recap: Lipstick Jungle

“Tsunami for Bad Mommy” is the latest headline to hit the papers, complete with a photo of Wendy wiping away the tears as she walks out the door of Bainsbridge Publishing. Wendy’s daughter Maddie, is not pleased that she is going to be the centre of (negative) attention at school. The argument reverts back to Wendy not allowing her to get a cell phone because she’s not old enough. Fourteen years old and cell-less is absolutely unheard of for an insanely rich prep school kid.

Still struggling with her career, Victory hires a new assistant to get her life back on track. Her new assistant Roy is hard working and eager to please. Hopefully there will be another storyline there since he’s such a cutie.

Nico and Kirby are still getting it on. After a steamy session before a photo shoot party, her rival Mike catches on and can’t wipe that sly look off of his face. Their affair seems to be taking a toll on Nico’s work life, so she calls Patty behind his back and tells her to bring another assistant to the next shoot.

As Victory and Joe get more serious, she invites him to dinner at Nico’s for the stamp of approval by her friends. Before the gathering, Joe has plans of his own- he wants Victory to meet his friends. This of course, translates into whisking her away to Coco Chanel’s secret getaway in Paris (damn that PJ!). They arrive in New York in time for dinner back at Nico’s. Kirby drops by for a surprise visit during dinner to confront Nico. Poor guy. Patty obviously took what Nico said too seriously, because the guy can’t even get a reference from her and he worked with her for two years!

She gets rid of him (for now), and dinner goes well- so I thought anyway. Apparently, Joe is a cold and heartless bazillionaire (no, he didn’t have any friends in Paris by the way). He doesn’t want to hang out with Vic’s friends again- not because he doesn’t like them, simply because he only wants to be with her. Vic on the other hand, tells him that Nico and Wendy are basically her family and are a significant part of their world. He coldly replies, “But not everyone is looking for family”.

In continuing with the slew of problems the ladies are facing, Wendy decides to take Maddie to the women’s media luncheon; partly to make up for the fact that she won’t get Maddie a cell phone, and to prove the article in the paper wrong about her being a bad mother. Maddie shows her true Gossip Girl side and throws a fit, leaving the expensive shoes Mommy bought her on the table in the middle of her speech. When in search for the little brat, Wendy runs into Janice Lasher who bathes in her misery. Bitchy Wendy emerges from down under and writes “Bitch” with her red lipstick on the back of Janice’s white coat.

Kirby pulls another surprise visit on Nico, this time at her office. She is in the midst of finding him another job for a photographer, but can’t deal with him right now. So, she writes up a cheque to Kirby, money that will “hold him over” until he finds a new position. Jerk move! Offended and feeling used and abused, he rips up the cheque. Mike watches this happen and catches some elevator time with Kirby…

To get back on Vic’s good side, Joe Bennett does what he knows best- spends a lot of money on expensive gifts. He ships Coco Chanel’s dress form (from the secret apartment in Paris) to her. Surprisingly, she refuses it and sends the generous gift back to him. They talk, but Joe stands his ground on refusing to hang out with her friends. A hurt Victory seems to have made a choice. There must be a compromise between friends and love in her world, but if Joe doesn’t see that, then maybe he doesn’t belong there?

Wendy and Maddie kiss and makeup. Mom is sorry for using her, and Maddie is sorry for being such a brat. Definitely paints a realistic portrait of how all teenagers act…

Nico hires Janice Lasher’s assistant Nora, to work at Bonfire instead. Nora is being paid to type up all of Janice’s wild stories as blackmail if Janice publishes her book on Wendy. Revenge is oh-so-sweet.

We end the episode off with Nico in Hector’s office. He asks her, “Do you know who Kirby Atwood is?” A shocked Nico is probably thinking… HE KNOWS! She calmly replies, “No”. To which he answers, “Well then why is he claiming that you sexually harassed him?”
