We saw a feisty side of Brooke White.  She obviously didn't like what the judges had to say either.  You could see it in her eyes that she thought she did really well until the judges critique.

Randy called it awkward.  Paula softened it by adding, "you can't help but smile" when you look at Brooke.  Simon just knew she'd be "dressed in yellow" and there'd be a yellow background when he found out she was singing "Here Comes the Sun."

Brooke basically told the audience to let it be -- as they booed Simon's remarks.  In a voice louder than I've heard Brooke get, she told them to cut it out because the judges are usually very nice to her.   

What was up in the beginning when she gave a shout out to her husband and the camera never got a shot of him in the audience?

I know that Ryan said there were 500 people in that live crowd, but you have to know where one of the hottest contestant's family is seated.

 

 

 "Your face sold the song" Simon said about Jason Castro's, "Michelle". 

"You're lucky this is TV and not radio."  I mean I'm glad it's TV and we can see his face too, but I think that was a bit harsh. 

I was absolutely impressed with how Jason picked a song with French lyrics.  Not only did he learn how to sing it, but he learned another language for it too.  Paula told Castro that he has a distinct charm, but nailed him with the comment that he turned an intimate song into a polka... hey! 

Oh for God's sake...

This Beatles thing is kind of new to me, she says. What?  Beatles are new to you? 

Ok, go ahead Kristy Lee Cook.. you know sex sells... and it's been keeping you in the competition thus far... "I can blow you out of your socks and you know it," was how Kristy defended herself. 

After that comment, Ryan needed to find a way to cool off. 

Was everybody else thinking what I was thinking when Kristy Lee Cook was talking about reminiscing through her photo book to connect her back home? 

Go home then Kristy Lee!  "You Got to Hide Your Love Away" was considered a safe choice from the judges.

Simon told Kristy Lee that she's not a good performer and she's like wallpaper.  "You notice it, but can't remember it." 

This performance was weak in parts but better than her "Eight Days a Week" fiasco last week. 

They are trying so hard to make something out of Kristy Lee... to develop her into a country star.  Who would have thought that Chikezie Eze could give us some country flavor?  Not me, but that's how he transformed "I've Just Seen a Face."

Chikezie sounded real good giving the song a country feel!  Paula loved it because it shows the whole scope of who he is as a singer.  I think he's really proved to us that he can do just about anything with that voice of his. 

Randy was on the fence saying there were good and bad parts.  Simon busted on his harmonica stint.  Moreover, saying he thought it started off ok... but then the song turned into the "Achy Breaky Heart." 

Simon said Ramiele Malubay sounded like Chikezie's harmonica.  Eek!  She could have really picked a better song to showcase her vocal strength.  Inside that tiny self of hers is a huge voice.  She can do beautiful things with it.

 "I Should Have Known Better" was just alright.  Paula told her to get back to a Dusty Springfield genre.  I think Ramiele should have known that her outfit wasn't doing anything for her either.

Michael Johns chose a dificult song like the panel always suggests to -- and got reamed by those judges for not nailing it.

"A Day in the Life" has many facets.  Switching it up in the middle of the song wasn't only difficult for him, but the band wasn't perfectly smooth either.  Simon called the performance a mess and he didn't hit the right notes.  Paula was saying how phenomenal it sounded during rehearsal.  She also made an excuse for him about the big stage and maybe it's the ear monitor.

Turns out, he wasn't wearing an ear monitor.  No help Paula.

Syesha Mercado with silky straight hair changed up "Yesterday."  She successfully changes her look quite a bit too.  Syesha says that being in the bottom 3 last week gave her the kick in the butt she needed to set it straight with the audience this time around.  Simon thought it was her best performance and Randy liked what she did with it.  Paula gave her advice to connect with her audience by using her eyes.

Speaking of eyes...

Carly Smithson's piercing blues didn't mesmerize Simon who thought "Blackbird" was indulgent.  Randy, though, called it/her --"cooliosis."  Paula loved her inflection, arrangement and tone. 

Carly disagreed with Simon's dig on it not being the right song.  She said it means so much to her and the other contestants who have gotten beat down by trying to break into the music industry.  She is proud of how far she has come.  Now, she says, she feels free.

David Cook could be this year's Idol.  For sure.  You know the show has yet to have a rocker for a winner.  Season 5's Chris Daughtry is perhaps the most famous AI rocker.  He made it to fourth place.  Season 4's Bo Bice was the runner-up rocker, but his career has not taken off quite like Daughtry's.  

Cook could very well take his uniqueness all the way to the top.  I don't know what's the best aspect about him... his guitar solos, his stage presence, his voice, his ability to rock a song slow.. steady and hard.

Cook sang "Day Tripper," but took the Whitesnake approach (which Simon was not fond of).  "I don't think that song was as good as you thought it was," Simon turned up his nose.  The other two judges praised Cook for keeping it interesting.

David Archuleta kept repeating himself, "hopefully I'll remember all my words tonight... hopefully, hopefully..."

Simon called his rendition of "The Long and Winding Road" a masterclass.  Randy cried out that Archuleta "brought the hotness back."  Paula loved his purity and how he rose above adversity.         

Season 5's Kellie Pickler is singing on this week's results show (for the second year in a row).  Last week it was a former competator of hers, AI runner-up Katherine McPhee.
