TV Recap: Lost March 20, 2008

guess who’s back…back again…

Claire and Aaron sit at her house with Rosseau, Alex, Sawyer, Hurley, Karl and of course crazy free as a bird, Ben.  In comes Locke with Miles.  Locke says no more secrets.  Ben tells everyone that once Miles gets Ben, he’ll kill everyone on the island.  Then Ben shares that his inside man is Michael.

Sayid and Desmond are sleeping on the freighter, and the alarm goes off.  They run upstairs to the deck, and the captain beats the crap out of some guys trying to escape via small raft.  He says he is doing it to save their lives.  Captain calls out for Johnson aka Michael.  He tells him to clean the mess up.  Sayid walks over to “Kevin Johnson.”  Michael says, “Not now.”  And Sayid replies, “Yes, now.  Why are you on this boat?”  Michael says, “I’m here to die.”  Why is Walt dead and now Michael has a death wish?  Was this part of the deal from the beginning?  I must know…this is our last episode for a whole MONTH!!!

help, i need somebody…help…

At the others housing, Locke walks off with Miles to take him back to the boathouse.  Sawyer runs after them.  Sawyer wants to know what’s going on with Miles asking Ben for 3 million dollars (earlier when Kate brought Miles to Ben).  Locke says he’s not worried about it since there are no banks around.  Oh Locke…dry humor.  Miles laughs and says Ben can get it.  When Locke tries to disagree Miles thinks its pretty clear that if Ben wants something, he gets it.  He used to be their prisoner, and now he is dining with them.  If Miles gets the money, he’ll let them live quietly.

In Claire’s house, Ben gives Alex and Karl a map to find “the sanctuary.”  They want to know why he’s not letting everyone go, and he says it’s not for everyone.  If these people, these supposed rescuers, find out Alex is his daughter, they will try to get things out of her.  He needs her to be safe.  Rosseau and Karl trust him so they, along with Alex, head for the sanctuary.  Should they trust him?  I don’t know.  Someone is dying this episode…and it’s too early in the season to be a main “Lostie.”

On the boat Michael and a “co-worker” are trying to repair the machinery.  Sayid and Desmond come downstairs saying the captain asked them to help.  Michael sends his partner away and then Sayid corners him and demands to know what he’s doing and why he got on the boat.  Desmond watches on horrified.  Lately, he’s been an ornament to Sayid’s wrath.  He just stands there and looks pretty (confused).

Flashback to Michael in his NYC apartment.  He’s sketching or writing something.  He looks at a picture of him and baby Walt then goes outside.  He gets in his car…. about to commit suicide.  He attaches a note to his jacket with a safety pin so that’s all I can assume.  He heads towards some industrial site.  He guns it and says he’s sorry as he crashes into a dumpster.  A dumpster?  Really?  Not off the side of a bridge or something?  Couldn’t he pop some pills or slit his wrists?  Anyway, we see the car smoking, but if this is a flashback, we all know…Michael ain’t dead.

rescue me…

Michael wakes up in the hospital.  Knew it.  Better ways to kill yourself…dumbie.  Next to Locke’s dad?  Or some old man.  The nurse comes in calling Michael, Mr. Dawson.  When he looks over, he sees Libby (the woman he killed after she walked in on him killing Ana Lucia).  He screams and she disappears.  In walks his real nurse.  She heard his screaming.  She explains they found him in his car with his note.  She wants to know his name, but he won’t give it.  She asks if he wants her to call Walt…that’s whom his letter was to.  He says no.  And the nurse walks away.

Soon, Michael is at his mother’s house.  He knocks on her door and asks to come in.  She won’t let him in.  She says Walt doesn’t want to see Michael.  Apparently this is a flashback.  His mom is angry that they came back after their apparent plane crash.  She can’t call them by their real names, and now she has to be Walt’s support system.  Michael leaves his mom’s house, and in the window Walt stands watching his father walk away.

Michael goes to a pawnshop, and he pawns the watch Jin gave him.  He doesn’t want money…he wants a gun with bullets.  He takes it in a brown paper bag into some alley.  He is talking himself into killing himself.  But he’s interrupted by Tom (the man who once kidnapped him and an Other).

i want you (she’s so heavy)…

Michael tries to shoot Tom and then beat him up…. but Tom pulls a gun on Michael.  He wants to know how Tom found him.  Tom says it doesn’t matter; he’s come back for Michael’s help.  Apparently, Michael told Walt about him killing Ana Lucia and Libby…so that’s why he doesn’t want to live with him.  Interesting…I can’t believe he told Walt what happened.

Tom says that Michael can’t kill himself…no matter what he tries.   The island won’t let him.  Then Tom gives him his information for his hotel and he’s sure he’ll see him later.  Michael goes home and tries to kill himself, but the gun won’t go off.  On the TV is a news report about how everyone on Oceanic 815 died.  Michael is so shocked that of course he must go see Tom.

Tom and some dude are drinking in the hotel room.  The dude is named Arturo.  Apparently, Tom is gay.  Or am I just assuming?  Arturo leaves the room. Michael wants to know how these others can come and go as they please.  Tom says only some of them can do that.  Then Michael asks why the plane is on the bottom of the ocean.  Tom says that Widmore staged the whole plane on the bottom of the ocean.  He doesn’t want anyone else finding the planes remains but him.  Michael wants Tom to prove it.  Tom tosses him a dossier.  Photos of the empty 300 graves.  The old plane he bought.  The whole set up shtick!

Tom says he needs Michael to get himself on the boat where it’s docked in Fiji.  The boat is Widmore’s and they need him to pose as a deckhand.  Michael refuses to go back to the island.  However, Tom explains that Michael’s job is to kill everyone on the freighter.  Aha!  By destroying radio equipment and causing them to go crazy?  Details of his mission aren’t yet revealed.

don’t let me down…

George (the crazy guy who later dies in Desmond’s arms…the radio room guy on the freighter) introduces himself to Michael aka Kevin Johnson.  Michael goes over to check in with Naomi.  There is a crate waiting for him.  Naomi says she’ll send it to his bunk.  Miles calls Michael out on his name not being Kevin.  Miles says not to worry about it; 80% of the people onboard are lying. Is he a psychic? Michael’s cell phone rings and it is Tom.  Tom says it will start within a week.  Michael is starting to get cold feet, but Tom responds by saying that he needs to protect his friends on the island.  And stop worrying about these people.

On the deck Frank fights with Naomi about who will go to the island first.  She, of course, wins the argument.  Frank wants to know how “Kevin Johnson” ended up on the boat.  Michael says he wanted adventure.  Then Frank says if you like adventure you’ll like his tale of Oceanic 815.  Michael’s ears perk up.  Frank tells Michael his theory about the passengers of Oceanic 815 still being alive.  And Widmore agrees and that’s how Frank ended up on the boat.

In Michael’s bunk, he stares at his crate.  Which looks like a coffin, does it not?  On the deck he hears a machine gun going off.  They are shooting skeet.  Michael goes and asks what the wife-beating jerkface is doing.  He tells Michael that they are shooting things, duh.  Michael wants to know if they’re supposed to be rescuing people….and then the guy demeans him by saying “Don’t you have some things to mop up?”

Michael goes and opens his crate.  Out comes a silver suitcase.  He takes it into some creepy room and opens it.  Inside is a bunch of tools.  And underneath that is a bomb.  He sets the code.  And he’s about to push the red button. Then he hears music.  Then he sees the ghost of Libby…who says, “Don’t do it Michael.”  He goes back over to his explosive suitcase, and he pushes the red execute button.  There are 8 seconds left on the timer.  And Michael thinks he’s about to die.  3…2…1…nothing happens.   Well something happens, a little switch pops up.  And there’s a note on a piece of paper.  The note says…not yet.

across the universe…

In his room, Michael bounces a ball against the wall.  George comes to the door to tell him there is a phone call from the mainland.  Apparently, the person calling for Kevin Johnson is Walt.  Michael comes immediately.  George shows Michael how to use the equipment and gives him privacy.  It’s not actually Walt, but it’s Ben.  And Michael’s disappointment is palpable.  Ben talks about how the bomb didn’t go off because there are innocents onboard.  Ben says he won’t kill the innocent.  Michael mentions Ana Lucia and Libby…but Ben says, “I didn’t kill them.  You did.”  Ben wants a list of all the names of everyone on board.  Michael must ensure the boat never gets to the island.  Michael says he’ll give Ben the names…and Ben says, “Consider yourself one of the good guys.”

Present time, Desmond and Sayid have heard the whole story.  Sayid says, “You are telling me you work for Benjamin Linus?”  And Michael says yes.  Sayid then twists Michael’s arm behind his back.  Sayid tattles on Michael to the captain.  Understandably so…Sayid thinks Michael is a traitor.

On the island, Rosseau and the kids stop to drink.  Almost over and no deaths….I think it’ll be Rosseau or Karl.  I have 1 minute to figure it out.  Karl seems obviously disturbed.  Alex asks what’s wrong, and Karl tells her that he has a bad feeling about this.  Karl thinks Ben is playing them.  Some bullets come flying.  They hit Karl and he dies.  Rosseau grabs Alex and says he’s gone.  They must go.  They must leave him and run.  Rosseau tells Alex to take her hand and run.  They count to three and get up.  Then Rosseau gets hit.  And Alex is left alone.  She is scared and alone…and I have no idea who killed them.  The assassins are hiding in the brush.  Alex stands up and says “Don’t…I’m Ben’s daughter.”

final thoughts…

Two deaths have happened.  And while I’m not a mean person (or at least I don’t think so…), it’s to “I don’t cares.”  I mean Karl and Rosseau were helpful to our friends…but they didn’t’ crash.  I didn’t hold an allegiance and empathy for them from day 1…so it’s hard to be too upset now.  I’m scared for Alex.  And I’m wondering who the killers are.  Also, I’m a bit mad at Sayid for turning Michael in.  I guess if I were in his position and had his limited knowledge, I would probably do the same.  However, our omniscient powers enable me to see this as a bad idea.  And is Tom gay?  And what does that have to do with anything?  Also, I want to physically see how they get to and from the island.  I’m just not sure how I’m feeling about all this exposition with little mystery.  Lost enticed me with its constant unexpected twists…but then it get hard with little exposition.  Now I’m in a reverse position.  And obviously a main character will die in the end of this season, who do you guys think it will be?  Claire?  Jin?  Sawyer?  I hope not Sawyer…  Anyway, I will see you guys again on April 24.  Tune in to Lost and my blog.  I will you all!  And great comments last week!!!

Hmmmm..... so the Captain says Ben set up the fake Oceanic wreck, and Ben says Widmore did it. I somehow believe Ben is responsible. He's so protective of the island, he didn't want people looking for the wreckage, so he set up a fake. I just can't believe Ben is one of the "good guys", he's got this evil aura about him and he can't be trusted. He probably set up Alex, Rousseau and Karl. Alex had gotten so close to the two of them, Rousseau because she's her mother, and Karl, because she loves him. Ben didn't like that one bit, and we saw how posessive he was of Juliet, and made sure her guy died. So he probably infomred his people to ambush them and make sure Karl and Rousseau die. Then Alex is all his again...
