Shear Genius Premieres Tonight on Bravo

jaclynsmithsheargenius.jpgThe second season of Bravo's Shear Genius premieres tonight at 10 p.m.

The reason I watch Shear Genius? Former Charlie's Angel Jaclyn Smith hosts the haircutting competition. And, little known fact, I, Jaclyn (Jacki) Garfinkel, am named after the angel herself. (Which is also why the picture on the left excites me so much!)

The reason you should watch Shear Genius? First, if you like Top Chef or Project Runway, there's a great chance you'll enjoy Shear Genius, as Bravo seems to know a thing or two about turning a reality show into gold. Second, the cast is a bunch of characters—all creative, all artists, all people who think their hair designs are the best. This, of course, equals drama! Third, so many of us ladies are our hair, and the show will give you tons of tips and ideas for how you may want to make over your style.

Yesterday I attended the Shear Genius event in NYC with Ysolt, the Beauty & Style producer/my event buddy. At the event, each stylist had their own mini hair boutique set up (with some crazy chairs -- see the photo after the jump), and they gave blow outs to those lucky fans who waited in line in the rain and sun.
sheargeniuspaulo.jpgIt was super fun to see the stylists in action. Unfortunately, because there was no hair cutting involved, the general trend was that fans with straight hair got curls and those with curly hair got their hair straightened. Even so, Ysolt and I chatted it up with a few of the contestants, and we were really able to get a sense of their personalities that way.

Ysolt's favorite is definitely Dee, the very retro rocker stylist. She was really animated and had a different take on style than most of the contestants - she's inspired by the 'dos on Joan Jett and the late Jim Morrison. Dee also described her time on the show as "f**king amazing." At least she had fun!

Stylist Charlie is definitely unique, as one can tell from his picture on Bravo.com with a very Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and the City-esque flower on his shirt. Charlie, as we all could have guessed, is not into trends at all. Whatever is trendy, he says is totally over.

Then there's Paulo (pictured on the right), who also doesn't do anything traditional. He also let us know we'll see his tears flow more than once this season. And, ladies, if you're wondering, Paulo says bangs are in for summer.

Check out the rest of the Shear Genius contestants, and then once you watch the premiere, come back here and let us know who you're rooting for!
