So You Think You Can Dance: Top 12
Alright folks, it's down to the Top 12 contestants on So You Think You Can Dance. I must apologize for not blogging about the show recently, I just haven't had the time the past two Wednesday's to inform you loyal viewers.
I'll just give a qick recap as to which contestants were already eliminated:
June 12: Rayven and Jamie
June 19: Susie and Marquis
June 26: Chelsea and Chris
July 3: Kourtni and Matt
However, I'm back and ready to give you the 411 on the remaining dancers and their routines - and each couple is dancing twice!
-----------------------------------------------
DANCE 1 - Couple: Chelsie and Mark ; Dance Genre: Salsa
This pair have been nothing but impressive since the Top 20 started airing almost a month ago, and tonight wasn't any different. The way Chelsie and Mark moved their bodies was incredible and you can absolutely feel the chemistry between the couple. Next to Twitchington, they're my favorite couple!
Nigel: Great routine to open the show! Terrific opening! The footwork between the pair of you is terrific.
Mary: This was another rockin' number, and this one worked for me! Chelsie, you were phenomenal!
Mia: I wanna stab you, you're [Chelsie] so gorgeous. The routine was rockin'! I thought it was a great performance.
DANCE 2 - Dance Genre: Broadway
Alright, they danced to to "I'm a Woman" from Smokey Joe's Cafe, a number that I danced to in a dance recital when I was about 11. And believe it or not, it was pretty reminiscent of my routine. Minus the sexiness, guy, and, oh yea, there were about ten other girls dancing with me. It was entertaining and sexy, just what it should be. Sorry, I got caught up in myself a bit.
Nigel: I was just in Vegas, and it was 110 degrees there, but it wasn't nearly as hot as this routine was! Terrific routine!
Mary: Was it sexy, bluesy? Yes it was, YES IT WAS!
Mia: It worked, I think it was a success. You guys told the story really well. But I feel that, Mark, it showed your lack of training and technique.
-----------------------------------------------
DANCE 1 - Couple: Comfort and Thayne ; Dance Genre: Hip-Hop
They both lost their former original partners, but things are starting to look up for these two, considering this is Comfort's genre! And thankfully, the routine was freakin' awesome! So entertaining, so in sync, and pretty risque and mesmerizing, but they weren't the greatest of partners by any means.
Nigel: Thayne, you were trying, and Comfort, you didn't relate to him. You danced it okay, but I didn't see what you added to the routine. I think we'll see them in the bottom three couples this week.
Mary: We're talking about chemistry, and that didn't have it. Is it going to make me stand up right now, no? For me, it was good.
Mia: It was a little bit more than good. I loved the choreography on the stairs, but when you got the floor... you have to work on your chemistry.
DANCE 2 - Dance Genre: Contemporary
The contemporary numbers are always beautiful, and this was an absolutely beautiful routine. Comfort looked a little out of her element, but she pulled it off, but I think it was easy to tell this isn't her thing. This pairing doesn't work well together at all.
Nigel: This was a tough one for me, but I would like to have seen another couple dance that routine.
Mary: It just wasn't completely believable for me. Comfort, you were doing everything and you looked beautiful, but it wasn't good.
Mia: Great piece of choreography. Comfort, you can only fake so much, and watching your lifts, and coming out of the lifts...I think if you had a better connection with one another, it would have been so good. Thayne, I think you're brilliant.
-----------------------------------------------
DANCE 1 - Couple: Will and Jessica ; Dance Genre: Contemporary
I think one word can sum up this routine: wow. By far the best routine...EVER.
Nigel: It was an extraordinary piece of work, extremely erotic. Stunning piece! Will, you were just incredible with your lines and strength. You two added something to the choreography!
Mary: Wow, that was one of the most amazing pieces I've ever seen on the show. Jessica, you stepped up to the plate once again.
Mia: Amazing, and I love that you completely went to a totally different place. And you really explored newness.
DANCE 2 - Dance Genre: Quickstep
The most dreaded routine of all is the quickstep, according to host Cat Deeley. Similar to the foxtrot, it's a very quick and fast paced type of dance -- and I frigin enjoyed that routine! It totally reminded me of Sandy and Danny dancing in the contest scene of Grease, and for such a hard routine, they made it look so easy.
Nigel: I thought the opening was fantastic, the jive was great, the quickstep was...eh. The performance was great, technique was great, but the quickstep, the genre, wasn't that great.
Mary: Jessica, a lot of the time you were losing your shape. You want to move so fast across the floor, and that didn't happen.
Mia: I'm a bit sad. You went back to that stiff, disconnected place, and it wasn't working at all. Will, you looked tired of carrying her.
-----------------------------------------------
DANCE 1 - Couple: Courtney and Gev ; Dance Genre: Cha Cha
So I'm watching this routine, and in walks my father. What does he say? "Wow, they're good." I'll leave it at that. And yes, they were very good.
Nigel: Gev, that was brilliant. Was it technically great? I don't think so. Was it great fun to watch? Abso-bloody-lutely! As a couple, you do suit each other, better than any other couple on that stage.
Mary: It was magic! Hot cha-cha-cha-cha. It was a great number! YES YOU'RE ON THE HOT TAMALE TRAIN!
Mia: I think that was fabulosity at its best! I haven't connected to you, Courtney, at all, but something is starting to happen!
DANCE 2 - Dance Genre: Jazz
The choreography is about two people lost in a jungle, and a prop is involved: a map (yes, a map) that the couple have to hold on to during the entire routine. It was an odd routine, the choreography was certainly original, and entertaining, but...odd.
Nigel: It was fun, it felt a bit like cotton candy. No substance to it, it was a bit of fun.
Mary: I don't feel the same way. I thought it was rough and raw and just livin' it up there. I loved the routine, I loved the way you danced it.
Mia: You guys had a great night tonight, both pieces were great.
-----------------------------------------------
DANCE 1 - Couple: Kherington and Twitch ; Dance Genre: Krump
I was very excited to see Kherington krump, because, let's face it, she's not the krumping type. She even said it herself. But mannnn Twitchington were awesome, as usual! And I think a lot of that stemmed from the fact that this isn't Kherington's genre, and made it that much more interesting to watch!
Nigel: On paper, this was the equivalent of a duet between Busta Rhymes or 50 Cent and Miley Cyrus. [Enter me dying from laughter here.] However, in reality, I thought you did a damn good job Kherington!
Mary: This is the first time on this show that I have really believed in this krump number! It was fantastic!
Mia: That was just dirty and disgusting and nasty and ugly and stank...I just love it! You guys killed it!
DANCE 2 - Dance Genre: Smooth Tango
"The tango scene is a lot like Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The fighting scenes are the tango scenes," says Twitch. Go figure, the song is taken from the Mr. and Mrs. Smith soundtrack. There was chemistry between the two, that's undeniable, but I thought, unfortunately, that it was a lackluster performance.
Nigel: Twitch, it wasn't honest for me. It wasn't honest in the sense that you werent performing as well as you could, you just didn't look comfortable. You murdered the dance routine tonight, not each other.
Mary: I loved, loved, loved the beginning. The ending was phenomenal. The in-between, it just didn't happen. As a whole...I'm just so happy you had the other number, too.
Mia: It's the personality that makes the dance step brilliant. I didn't even see the fighting going on, until the end. There was nothing there.
-----------------------------------------------
DANCE 1 - Couple: Katee and Joshua ; Dance Genre: Viennese Waltz
Josh is supposed to be playing a ghost character, and Katee's supposed to "feel him." Interesting concept, but I wasn't too thrilled with the song choice - "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls. Really?! Whatever, the lifts were good, the choreography was good. And that was it... just...good.
Nigel: Joshua, it was a little too bouncy, instead of flowy. The rest of it, I thought you did very well. Katee, that was beautiful.
Mary: All the lifts went great in this number. You did a tremendous job in the lifts. I feel in the execution of the dancing of the Viennese Waltz, it just wasn't there. It was choppy.
Mia: I feel the same way about Joshua...a little bit clumsy. It was okay, it wasn't your best...at all.
DANCE 2 - Dance Genre: Bollywood
For the first time in the shows history, a Bollywood routine was performed. It's difficult, considering, according to the rehearsal segment, that certain hand motions mean not-so-nice things in different countries. It was incredibly entertaining and physical, and they totally made up for their last routine.
Nigel: It's fantastic to see! That was tremendous! Good work!
Mary: In this stage we have one rule: heart, soul equals stardom. You guys are stars tonight! You're definitely back on the hot tamale train tonight!
Mia: Great fun, that was a great piece!
-----------------------------------------------
It's getting more and more difficult to figure out who will be on the chopping block. This week, I think Comfort and Thayne will be one of the three couples dancing for their lives.
I guess we'll see tomorrow night!

Everyone vote for Thayne! Please please please! He's a great friend of mine and we would all love nothing more than to see him make it to the top 10. This is his dream! And you have to admit he's pretty incredible, especially since he only started dancing seriously about 6 years ago.
