Should You Watch the 24 Event?

Sunday night marks the premiere of the 24 2-hour "event." This is Fox's way of getting fans to remember that the show exists, since its last episode aired May 21, 2007, and the next real episode won't be on until 2009.

So, should you spend two hours this weekend with 24? Well, that depends. If you're a loyal viewer and plan to stick with the show until the end, then yes. Watch it, because you'll need to have seen these two hours to understand the rest of the season.

As for the rest of you... I watched the episode and laughed through most of it. I'm guessing your response to that is, "Since when is 24 funny?"

Here's the deal. We all know Jack Bauer's character is over the top. And that's part of why we love the show. Jack Bauer always wins. He never needs to stop for the bathroom. He never needs to recharge his cell phone. He never runs out of bullets. We get that. But this Redemption episode is beyond that. Jack Bauer turns into a ninja.

Okay, the ninja thing isn't literal, but it sure seems that way. He jumps out of trees. Avoids rockets. It's beyond unbelievable. The scenes without Jack Bauer are pretty good. But when he enters the picture, good goes out the window.

And by the way, if you never watched 24 before but still want to check it out, you're fine. Nothing from the past is even mentioned. It's sort of like the past doesn't even exist. Hmmmm.

Some things to look for if you do check out Redemption:

- There's a camera man in one of the shots. Not just a microphone. A full cameraman. It's a little after the one-hour mark. When Jack and the students are running down a hill, look for the camera man on the left hand side of the TV. Then use your DVR to rewind it and watch the scene over and over in shock, like I did.

- Ask yourself how someone can get shot and yet remain in the exact standing position that they started in? (That's all I'm saying without getting too spoilery.)

So, if you do watch Redemption, be sure to come back and here and let me know what you thought! -- Jacki Garfinkel

Yeah, I must've replayed that cameraman "scene" at least half a dozen times. As for the guy not moving, it must have been his special forces "training". (lol)

If you really look closely, you will notice another man behind the cameraman holding a DSLR snapping pictures of the scene. It looks like he is bearded with glasses and a tan hat.

Yeah! I saw the cameraman, too. I thought I was crazy or something, but I know I couldn't be mistaken. I wonder what happened with the editing process? Maybe it's time to change the production schedule a bit and get more eyes on it.

My wife and I noticed the cameraman too and immediately we both said "Wha the..". I'm sorry, but that's basic Editing-101. "Chapter-2 Don't forget to edit out the camera guy!"
