It’s that time of season when Girlfriends’ reruns are in full force, and last night was no exception. I personally hate when this happens. Why can’t they save the repeats for the summer? But whatever. Since I haven’t recapped this episode before, I thought I’d dish on its drama anyway. Just remember this is totally out of sequence.

Last night basically had three scenarios going on: Monica and William planning their wedding, Lynn in the studio with Big Boi of Outkast, and the most prominent, Mya trying to cope with her long distance marriage to Darnell. I smell a poll…

We’ve all heard it said--he may have had you doin’ things you never thought you oughta, but when it’s time for him to find someone with whom he will spend the rest of his life, no doubt it’s usually the good girl that he picks to be his wife.

Since we’re on the subject, who do you think is more likely to not just get a man, but keep him? Vote now!

Resize lynandeldon.jpgThe last two episodes have been reruns, but next week the ladies will be back in full swing. And guess who’s back? my favorite, the preacher man. Guest star Kadeem Hardison (didn’t you just love him as Dwayne Wayne on A Different World) will again step into the role of Eldon, the reverend who got Lynn all hot and bothered, then just left her bothered when he wanted to nicks the sex, but Lynn instead nicks him.

The fact that these two seem like polar opposites is great, but damn if they don’t have major chemistry. I hope he can finally calm Lynn down; I think they would be a match made in Heaven—get it! But from what I can gather in next week’s episode, looks like the minister may have moved on. Tune in Monday at 9 on the CW to find out.

Do you think Lynn and Eldon make a good match?

We all love the fabulous fashions on the show, and recently I got a chance to chat with the woman who makes it all come together. From wardrobe staples, to style inspirations, Girlfriends’ costume designer Stacy Beverly dishes on what really makes the look.

Shireese: What is the inspiration behind the choices you make for the ladies? Do the characters’ personalities come into play when you’re making the decisions?

Stacy: Absolutely. It all starts with the visions from Mara, who’s our creator. In her mind, she already had a direction that she wanted to go with these characters so she is definitely very inspiring. The personalities are a big, big factor—that along with the script requirements, the information that each actor gives, they all have something to bring to the table, as well as my creative ideas. It comes from so many different directions.

Get acquainted with Joan, Mya, Lynn and even Toni all over again—relish in your favorite episodes, and catch up with some you might have missed now that Girlfriends: The First Season is on DVD. Check out Mya with that red hair (thank God she changed it), or Joan back when she was a passionate lawyer. Can you believe Flex was the first Darnell before fine ass Kahlil Kain took over (Thank God they changed him)? And that Lynn, she had such a baby face, but is it me, or has she not evolved much since the beginning days? Best of all, for all of you that miss her, it’s the Toni years, translation, all the backstabbing, and craziness lives on. Remember how she slapped the mess out of Joan in Jamaica? That’s in the season finale. How about Davis, and his restaurant they all used to hangout in? It’s all there. My favorite from season one is when Mya goes off on Joan for trying to give her a boushy wedding when she really wanted a ghetto-fabulous one—it’s on disc two. The first season of Girlfriends is in stores February 27, that’s today, so go get it!

resize joanandaaron.jpgSome things are better left unsaid. Telling your mother-in-law her cooking is bad. Telling someone you barely know her husband’s cheating on her. Saying I love you when you don’t mean it. Saying you don’t when you do. How about saying you slept with a strange married man sixyears ago who just so happens to be your new man’s friend? Yeah Joan’s got a secret. Read on to see if she’ll tell.

Three cheers for Monica. She really did leave. But who knows how long. You know they didn’t write her out, so now we just have to wait and see how she’ll come back. But in the meantime, William was in the yard with Darnell and took his wrath out on a garden snake.

Resize Monica.jpgMonica was a ghetto girl who went to charm school, either real or self-induced, but whatever the case, it worked. She was always poised, her shoulders back. Her nails were done, her clothes on point, her hair in tact. She knew just how, when and where to say all the right things. And it was her life long dream to snag an established, rich man to call her on. After several years of ups and downs—William falling in and out of love, and then back in love with her again—she finally got the man to marry her.

resize manup.jpgBy the end of the day, you may already be excited about what your husband has planned for you tomorrow. By the end of the day, you may be sulking because you don’t have a man at all. But because of the hand of a husband or a boyfriend, by the end of the day, approximately three women, just like you, will be no more. That’s how pervasive domestic violence is in this country. And last night, Girlfriends felt compelled to address it.

All the girlfriends and their men-- except for Lynn’s man ‘cause well, she ain’t got one-- were gathered at the J-Spot, Joan's restaurant, when the conversation turned to Valentine’s Day. But Joan’s new beau didn’t believe in the sappy day. It’s just another excuse corporations use to get money out of people, or so he’d say. The others were surprised by the news, knowing Joan is a sucker for a holiday. But Joan quickly brushed it off, with the lie that she doesn’t believe in it anyway.

Mya’s always suspecting something’s going wrong. Remember that episode when she thought Joan’s bartender stole from her? Yeah she was wrong. This Monday she thinks her new neighbor’s husband is beating her, but this time she’s right.

I’ve already seen the episode and what’s different and wonderful about it is that this time the men are the ones that take a stand. Watch Monday at 9pm. I’ll have the recap on Tuesday, then come back here, and tell me what you think?

Resize lyn.jpgLyn was coming off the stage when he appeared. It was open mic night at a club and he came backstage to say he liked her music. Conversation was sparked between the two, peppered with mild flirting, but mild isn’t her specialty so when he mentioned something about a big staff, she upped the ante on their innocuous banter and said, “I love a big staff.” But he was talking about his church, ‘cause he’s a minister. She tried to cover it up, and embarrassed she said, “I love a big staff infection.” And the best part about it, he didn’t even notice the sexual reference. Then again, I think he did. But what’s even better is he didn’t care. The man knew what he wanted. He was touched by her music. The only thing still lingering for him was when he could be touched again. And so he asked--in just those words. And so she told. And so that was.

Girlfriends is coming to TV Cocktail. And if you haven’t been watching now is as good a time as any. They’re in their seventh season, which some say is rumored to be the last. They're also noticeably missing Jill Marie Jones, whose character Tony Childs, I’ll admit, did a lot of stupid stuff, but the show's not the same without her.

Here are the ladies in a nutshell. A really tiny nutshell.

Joan Clayton: 30 something ambitious go-getter when it comes to her career, but in the personal arena, she can’t keep a man to save her life.

Maya Wilkes: 30 something, was a teenage mother, who later married her baby daddy, only to cheat on him, then marry him again. She’s the assistant turned author, with no bigger hopes than to live the American dream and experience it with her family.

Lyne Searcy: 30 something, and all over the place--literally. She has like five master degrees, but doesn’t know what to do with them. She’s not sure what she wants to do, or who she wants to do for the matter, so she does a bit of everything and damn near everyone. Now here flavor of the month is music; she's trying to get a singing career going. And it looks like tonight’s episode will have her jonesin’ for a preacher man.

Then there’s William who’s like the dopey but loveable big brother to them all.

Watch tonight at 9, and I’ll be back tomorrow to dish on the latest life and love affairs of these girlfriends.
