LipstickJunglepumpkins.jpgAs we head into midseason TV (yes, we're almost there!), you might just be wondering what TV will still be around. Midseason is usually a time where some fall shows are canceled and the midseason shows return.

For example, the fabulous Damages returns to FX on January 7. Fan favorite Lost hits the small screen on January 21 with a three-hour premiere. (Yes, three-hours! Woohoo!)

Not every show is so lucky. NBC has pulled the plug on its freshman series starring Christian Slater, My Own Worst Enemy, as well as the sophomore drama, Lipstick Jungle. Both shows' ratings had dropped considerably in the past few weeks.

Fox has also canceled one of its longest running shows, MADtv. According to the show's co-creator, David Salzman (who wants to shop it to other networks), the comedy was becoming too expensive for its time slot and ratings.

And then there's the ill-fated Pushing Daisies. It's one of the most unique, colorful, entertaining shows on television, and yet it can't seem to catch a break in the ratings. Producers were told to make their last episode a possible series finale. But show creator Brian Fuller has other plans in mind... if the show does meet an early end, he said at the Paley Center for Media that "the idea would be to finish out the season's story arcs in comic books."

So, what do you think?

My favorite, favorite actress of all time, Mary Tyler Moore (from the Mary Tyler Moore Show, of course), is returning to television.

Ms. Moore (she's too fabulous for me to refer to her by first name only) will play mom to Wendy (Brooke Shields) on NBC's Lipstick Jungle.

Joyce, as Moore's character will be named, is a retired high-powered executive who makes her daughter question her idea of wanting to have it all.

Of course, that was something that Mary Richards struggled with throughout Mary Tyler Moore—could she be high up in the newsroom and have a man?—so Moore will definitely have a thing or two to add to the role.

Anyone else as excited as I am?

Too caught up in their own drama to reconcile, Wendy is busy getting a writer to finish a script on time so production for the movie can begin, and Nico is still caught up in her affair with Kirby. Victory puts her focus on work, and remains strictly professional with Joe. Even when Joe arranges a “business meeting” with her complete with champagne and hazelnut truffles flown in from Geneva, Vic holds her ground. Although her love life is lacking, the business seems to be picking up. Nico introduces Vic to a hockey superstar (Chris Parker) and his wife, and the two show interest in having her style them for their Bonfire shoot. The game night they hosted is followed by an after party of Victory and her new found friends.

On the other side of town, Nico has an after party of her own back at Kirby’s apartment. Charles is being incessantly annoying tonight, calling her off the hook. When she finally takes a breather to pick up, she races to get her clothes own and out of bed. Kirby is freaked out by her reaction from the call, when she explains, “My husband had a heart attack!”

While picking up her kids at school, Wendy hears of a prequel to Harry Potter that was never published. She mentions the prospect of getting the rights to the film to Nico and Vic briefly, but before Wendy can take credit for it, news slips out to Hector from Nico during an intense meeting. The two are set up to take the corporate jet to Scotland for a meeting with J.K. Rowling, but Wendy insists that she can’t leave the kids behind since Shane is busy with his newfound career. Seeing this as an advantage, Nico invites Kirby to go on a romantic getaway with her to Scotland. Shane encourages Wendy to go on the trip so Nico doesn’t get all the credit for getting Rowling (if she does, anyway).Umm… SURPRISE! Nico is shocked and definitely not pleased when she sees Wendy…and Wendy can definitely sense it.

Nico, Wendy and Victory are on a night out at the jazz club. The antisocial Joe Bennett joins them, as does Wendy’s husband Shane, who ends up on stage. Apparently, Shane is a really good musician! Seems like this could’ve gone somewhere before he took on the role of stay-at-home daddy…

mar6_1.jpgThe loneliness gets to Nico as she looks around and sees everyone with their husband/boyfriend So the minute she has the chance, she hops in a cab and heads over to Kirby’s place. She sets out ground rules for their purely physical relationship but ends up sleeping over at Kirby’s place (breaking rule #6).  Victory and Joe’s make out session comes to a halt when she notices her designs in a window display- but under the name of another designer, Ricardo Bragini.

In the middle of screening a new film that Wendy’s studio is producing, Nico confesses to the girls about her affair. Wendy and Victory are apparently upset and shocked by this revelation. Victory even feels like she’s been cheated on too, because Nico didn’t tell them until it got to the point of a lawsuit.

lipstickfeb28.jpgIt seems the case is advancing but not to the favor of Nico’s side. A new witness has been added to the case. Somebody saw Kirby talking to Nico at the launch party, and saw him follow her to the ladies’ room shortly thereafter. The lawyer has prepared a statement for her to sign, claiming that he followed her into the bathroom and tried to sexually harass her. When she retaliated, he decided to file this lawsuit in revenge. As long as she signs these papers, the legal team will paint him as an unwanted sexual predator and “make him go away”. She second guesses signing the papers, fearing what this might do to Kirby’s future. When Wendy reminds her that he obviously didn’t consider her when he filed the lawsuit, she signs. Just when we think Nico is going to confess to her husband before he hears it from someone else, she holds back. They bump into one of his students at a coffee shop, a pretty girl that tells Nico how lucky she is to have Charles as her husband. A little bit odd… but maybe she’s just being friendly?

Wendy gets caught up planning the party for her upcoming film Bombay Highway. Overboard, to be exact. She gives Victory the opportunity to revive her career, when she asks her to design a dress for her leading lady Chloe Jamison at the premiere party.

“Tsunami for Bad Mommy” is the latest headline to hit the papers, complete with a photo of Wendy wiping away the tears as she walks out the door of Bainsbridge Publishing. Wendy’s daughter Maddie, is not pleased that she is going to be the centre of (negative) attention at school. The argument reverts back to Wendy not allowing her to get a cell phone because she’s not old enough. Fourteen years old and cell-less is absolutely unheard of for an insanely rich prep school kid.

lip_103_02.jpgStill struggling with her career, Victory hires a new assistant to get her life back on track. Her new assistant Roy is hard working and eager to please. Hopefully there will be another storyline there since he’s such a cutie.

Our three high powered ladies are presented with work-related obstacles this week. Wendy is in high spirits since one of her movies raked in 40 mil over the weekend. But over in the office, nobody seems to be celebrating. Instead, they were all too busy reading a draft of a tell-all book which very closely follows the Wendy’s life as a (terrible) mother. Think The Nanny Diaries meets The Devil Wears Prada. The author of the book is Mariska Havel, her ex nanny who barely speaks English.

You’ve seen the huge ads in Times Square, heard all the hype, read the synopses and maybe even the book- the highly anticipated premiere of Lipstick Jungle finally made its debut on Thursday

We are introduced to the ladies as a news report plays on about New York’s 50 most powerful women. At the top of the list is Wendy Healy (Brooke Shields), president of Parador Pictures. Nico Reilly (Kim Raver) follows closely, as editor-in-chief of Vanity Fair equivalent, Bonfire Magazine. Barely making the cut is Victory Ford (Lindsay Price), once a high profile designer who has not enjoyed much success as of late. Victory’s reveal of her fall collection is applauded by her two best friends- but fails to impress critics in the industry. What’s a girl to do but indulge in cupcakes? Wendy (the “nicer” one) tells her to stay in, hide out for a bit. Nico (as we can already see is dubbed the “bitchier” one) tells Victory to bounce back, and definitely lashes out on people who criticize women for being successful. Clearly Nico has a lot of bitterness and pent up anger from her past experiences.
